I know it's going to be a circus, but I don't know where else to go tomorrow. I haven't been hunting for deer in the last 15 years, and I really want to get back into it. Next year I plan on doing a lot more scouting, so that I don't have to sit in a pumpkin patch. :P
My plan right now is to drive in with the rest of the mob from Vail Loop gate and try to find a likely looking clearcut to watch for the morning. I will possibly bushwack through the bottoms where other folks might not be willing to go if I get desperate. The weather is supposed to be nice, which would normally mean less deer moving, but I'm guessing that all of the hunters suddenly dumped into the woods might get them moving around, hopefully.
If I get something, that will be the icing on the cake. I'm really just looking forward to hanging out with my Dad for the weekend. Has anyone hunted there before? Got any tips for the area?

There are a ton of road hunters. Find some timber to hunt because you should be all alone.

duck and cover. no, get out of the truck and find somewhere to hike, the deer will be as far away from the roads as they can be once daylight hits and the crowd arrives. there are lots and lots of people just let the road hunters chase them to you.

^ Yup, thats what I keep hearing
Find a nice spot on the edge of a clearcut, preferrably on the opposite side of the clearcut from the main roads, and just wait for the hunting traffic to push the deer your way

Keep your gps on and keep rolling til the traffic clears. That place is a maze and it can be tough to find your way out. Don't take a last light shot unless you are prepared to stay behind the gates until the next morning. Fair weather is not your friend but you should see animals. A forked horn buck is dang near a trophy there. There are bigger animals and I have seen them driving out but not during shooting hours.
I have a different zone this year and may take a trip in there later in the season. For all the people who hate it.....don't go! I think the territory is great and have found many tranquil spots amongst the chaos.
Good luck and be smart.

A noob is someone who is a beginner, who doesn't know much.
I was there today. Not as bad as I was lent to think. Probably throughout the day I heard twenty shots. Going back tomorrow for a half day. Didn't see any deer in back of trucks.
