General season; if an ethical shot presents itself, take it. He looks to be at least 24" wide, and as long as that left main beam isn't broken, and the right side has the potential it looks like, he's a shooter.

I'd wanna shoot him, and could kill him with that angle.  But wouldn't be my cup of tea, unless.......he either picked up his head and gave me a head neck look at reasonable range, or turned just a touch more to his right and showed me that last rib.  Cool pic.

I would never take that shot, even if he turned broadside he is still skylined. Where do you think that bullet is going to land if you miss? That's right, you have no idea.

Ditto.

Put the sneak on him.  Get a better angle.  Grunt or Whistle.  He'll come around.  There are more deer out there.....

He's not aware of me.  I have the wind in my favor.  Light is fading, but I have time... just have to watch out for those does so they don't bust me.

Let him crest the hill & if the wind is in your favor follow immediatly as quiet as possible for a shot. If the wind is in his favor he already knows your near.  Never shot into the skyline your bullet could find another hunter.:hunter: :hunter:

Come on guys!! None of you are playing into it!!!  :chuckle: In the true spirit of opening day of modern season your supposed to just throw caution to the wind and start blazing at the buck!!! I mean come on...what are the chances that another hunter....another human being....with a family waiting for him to come home at night is standing on the other side of that ridge?!?!?! And if there was.....the family would surely understand that it was opening day of modern season!!! So once again....COME ON...in the true spirit of opening day....OPEN FIRE!!!!!!  :mgun:

That brings back a bad memory I have of elk hunting in the bumping area! I was walking through the brush when I hear something in the brush so I stop get behind a tree ready my gun and wait then out pops a Asian guy with a brown furry coat and a brown duffus hat on with ear muffs flipped up so the furry inside is showing with no orange on :yike: :yike: I told himjust a couple thing before going on my I think one of the things was that I should shoot him just out of principal >:( >:( I will never forget that one :bdid:

Since it's one of Bone's pictures I'd shoot the one thats even bigger and in a spot that I can safely fire. You can't see the one I'd shoot because he is just outside of that picture. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I would shoot him right between the eyes...That way it would split the skull plate, increasing his spread from 24" to about 32"....... :chuckle:

Rem,  easier to drag em by the horns when they move around and if I couldn't hit it in the head at that distance I'd quit hunting. ;)   :IBCOOL:

Excellent point Sir..I once heard it said that with the right elevation a 30-06 round may fly 5 miles before landing...

Be sure of your target and what is behind it.  Cross your fingers and work your best sneak up the hill.

That's what I was hoping for. I try and be conservative when judging a deer from behind, they always look bigger.

I hear you 7 and thats a good thing to remember.  I think this buck flares in the front, especially on one side so is decieving.
