I was riding my mtn bike back behind a gate this morning ( i know bad idea being that is is modern opener) to do some scouting about 5 miles in for late archery and check for bear that get pushed into a specific draw by the rifle deer hunters. There was one car at the gate and there usually arent many people that hunt more than 1/3 a mile down this road. I was about 2 minutes into my ride when I noticed a couple hunters in the bend of the road in front of me about 150 yrds or so in the pre-dawn light. I was wearing a blaze orange vest. I got about 40 yards from these two guys and noticed one of them bring their gun down. It ran trhough my head for about one second before I realized he was scoping me for the past 100 yards!!
Well I came completely unglued on this dip$hit! His excuse was they were waiting for a buddy and he was checking to see if I was him..."with your rifle scope?!!" I screamed. After a couple of exploitives I asked him if he would like me to look at him down the barrell of my .44mag which was on my hip. "it's no different! Here lets see how much sense this makes and see how it makes you feel!!" That put things in perspective for him and he began to blabber with BS excuses.
Well I did not draw my sidearm but I did get his name. At first he was actually suprised i was so pissed i almost took his gun from him.
Once I got past them I didnt see anyone else the rest of the day but I spent most of the day more than 5 miles in. Saw a couple decent forks and a nice 2X3 BT.

I'm glad you let him know!! Good for you!!

Yeah and imagine how many times you were scoped and never even knew it. People are stupid. I will not be in the woods for modern firearm season since I am not holding that tag. It might prolong my life.

I hate to let that keep me out of the woods as this is when I like to do my scouting but I might have to consider it. I dont like to think about those things...I hope it has not happened before. I almost feel bad for ruining that guys day but I hope it was for his own good.
The rd/trail going in is too steep to ride so I push my bike up it (just got the bike a few weeks ago) and ride down. The modern hunters dont usually go in that far and if they did I would assume they would be decent hunters and have a head on their shoulders...just got to get past the first mile!

how hard is it to carry a pair of binos idiots
-
getting scoped is bad, but look at how many idiots keep there finger on the trigger as well. Thats more than a reason to kick some ones butt to teach them a lesson.

That's why I quit hunting modern 15 years ago. I was in a clearcut glassing with my binos', with lots of orange on. Looked up at the top of the cut and there was some jacka$$ scoping me. So I threw up my rifle back at him and said howdy with the one finger. Walked out, put the rifle away; picked up a bow and have never gone back to hunting modern.

I try to go deep in the woods well away from the roads, and have met few. Being stubborn helps at times :chuckle: But boy when I come back to th roads it looks like a seahawks game just let out :(

>:( Boy does that chap my ass :bash: there is absolutly no excuse in the world for anybody to do that at all.. Glad you told them about it. What an idiot.. :bash:

That is the exact reason my dad and I started archery hunting years ago. I hunt with a rifle from time to time but am always worried about someone doing that.

its funny to see archery road hunters :chuckle: when I was bear hunting I couldnt beleive my eyes one guy had a attachemnt to his truck with the bows hanging off the side.

I was hunting early archery & had a truck pull out on the landing below us, must of been 500-600 yards. We could see someone out of the truck but couldn't tell what they were doing. I got the binos out and was looking at a rifle pointed right at us ! We backed up to the hillside out of view & protected & I letout a few yells. It was pretty unnerving. Mike

Yeah that is funny, lots of guys archery road hunt with their bikes too behind the gates.
I am going to use my bike to get below the area that I want to hunt, then stash it and hike up to the top of where I am going to hunt then hunt down back towards my bike. I've heard it works pretty well that way. Ive always just hiked in and out on foot and do seem to see game that way. Of course if I was riding my bike and spotted game of course i would go after it. After all it is kind of hard to get away from any roads the areas I hunt in SW WA. The terrain is littered with them...mostly gated now which is great.
