Title: Is this gun 2 3/4 or 3 "??
Post by: Hornseeker on October 17, 2010, 08:55:23 AM
I have an old O/U that is not marked.  A 3 inch slides in no prob and the action closes no prob. The chamber, appears, to be long enough to accomodate the opening of the 3 inch shell... But how can I be sure?

Also...will that "old" gun handle steel or can it damage an old barrel? Probably depends on the gun and barrel eh?

Thanks!

Do you make and model and any other descriptors?
Would hold-off steel shot for now.
I can do some research and offer a suggestion.

I would not shoot steel, some older guns can't handle it. If I were you I would take it to a gun smith

Its a Mauser-Bauer Model 71 E O/U made in Italy, Probably about 68 or 69... Very little info on the net, but I'm sure someone here can figure something out on it!
