Help !!
I have hunted Little Nathes for 25 years. I got drawn for Rimrock (Rifle Any Bull) and have never Hunted this Area. Any HELP on where to go would be Greatly Appreciated !!!!
-
I know where to go, but a question like that SHOULD NOT be your first post!!! welcome to the site by the way.
-
I am curious as to where the "armpit of the state of washington" is. I am guessing La Push!!!
-
From his user name, "yakimaarcher," I'll take a stab at it and guess Yakima. :dunno:

I know it"s a little late on asking for this info but I couldn't"t get away being my father was so sick and just passed away. I have the firetrail map and others I have been going over. I'll be going over this Friday morning to set up a camp (I was thinking around Lost Lake) and then scout Friday afternoon Saturday and Sunday. I was just asking for some general places to look over before Monday. Any help would be appreciated and a Beer or Drink will be waiting for you at my camp !!

Lots of roads and roadhunters. Find some sign and get off the road and you'll do fine. Seen a handful during the muzzle permit season. Seen em in several different locations. Lost lake isn't too far from a few bulls I know are still alive and kicking:)

Thanks Kris,
Gonna be 58 next month but i still dog the woods. Never was a road hunter ! I've packed many a quarters on my back out of deep canyons !! My son's last 2 spikes at Little Natches were 7 hours and 7 1/2 hours. I told him no more for a spike ! My back ain't what it used to be. Now with this any bull tag it will be worth it ! I will be bring the Ben Gay and some pain medicine just in case I get lucky though ! I got a buddy coming with me but lucky me he has bad knees :-(

there will be people willing to help out!!! good luck, hope for snow

its a great unit. get back into some of the thick crap no one wants to go and there will be elk around for u to chase :IBCOOL: i had the archery bull permit last year. my buddy i hunt with, had his wife draw the rifle bull tag and son drew a antlerless tag :yike: 3 tags for rimrock in one year :chuckle: i know some of the country pretty good. its a fun place to hunt but not that easy. unless you r a road hunter :bash:
-
Thanks Guys - I do really appreciate this info I am getting !!!
-
Rimrock and bad knees don't really go together.
-
HaHa - Yeah that's why I'll be doing the packing - He also has a Any bull tag too . My boy is going to Washington State and he said for me to give him a call if I need help - Don't think i won't hold him to it !
I think my plan is for my buddy to drop me off in the high places and to meet me on the lower roads somewhere..

I suggest you visit the website www.digital-topo-maps.com (http://www.digital-topo-maps.com). It allows you to see roadmaps, topo maps and google earth on the same site. The site allows you to get there knowing what the terrain is like and the ability to see what that vegetation is like. Knowing in advance about hidden clear cuts or meadows is a tremendous help.

Welcome to the site. Rimrock area is my play yard. I too just lost my (other) father, I missed early archery season for that reason. So I know how hard hunting and focusing on hunting is and can be. I had 2 bulls on my game cams before I pulled them at the end of august. Lost lake is a good area to start, if you follow the rd. to the end there is an old rd. that is pretty easy walking, it has a couple of steep spots, when you come to a chioce to make to go left or right, the left will take you around to Long lake and back to the rd. if you go right it takes you back farther then up to Loie Way Gap, which is another unit. Let me know how you do, I am able to hunt late archery and looking for a spike/cow elk or nice 3pt. buck:) Good luck and I am sorry for your loss.
-
good luck mark i hope your hunt goes well. ;) ;)
-
Thanks Buddy - Gonna walk these Old legs off - Hopefully no Charlie horses - Been taking potassium vitamins and eating bananas everyday :-)
-
between the louie gap trail, and the rimrock you see, there are escape routes there, plant your butt for elk, they will come through, the bull Im packing out in my avatar come from up there in the rock and timber

Don't have my map with me here at work - Is Louie Gap trail near Lost Lake ? That is where I am going to set up camp.

338Thumper - you aren't Chad are you?
If so, I'll come down and help a little on Sat. I might hit the Res for birds first thing in the morning but I'll do some scouting in the afternoon/evening.
-
HaHa no I'm not Chad... I work at Bangor Submarine Base in Poulsbo.. Near Bremerton
I'll be camping in Lost Lake - I have a Red 1990 one ton Ford with a 8' camper on it - I'll be driving around in a 1989 brown Bronco II...

Ah, alright. I met a couple of guys last weekend that drew that tag. I thought that he had mentioned that he was hunting with a .270 so maybe you weren't the right guy (just going off of username). But he said that he had bad knees, too, so whatever. I told the guy that I would help him out if I had the chance. I'm an archery hunter so no skin off my butt to provide what help I can.
Anyway, good luck down there - I saw some pretty decent bulls there this summer and talked to a couple of guys that had gotten a 4 point and a 6 point with muzzleloaders. You have a good chance at a bull.
-
i have been drawn for the same tag twice in my life. Shot a nice 5x6 in '99, and had tag soup last year. I wished I could of traded my bull tag for a cow.
We camp up the S. Fork near Grey Crick. If we locate any big boys we can try to find you. We are driving '03 Dodge Diesel silver, and a '78 Mustard FJ40.
Good luck.
Ryan
