I have the opportunity to hunt up by Newport this weekend on some private land. I didn't think I would have time to hunt the early season this year but my uncle called me up and I told him this would be a great weekend to go(mid terms are over :))! Anyone have any tips for hunting that area? I've never hunted up that way before, Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What GMU you guys planning on hunting? I lived north of Newport for basically my whole life until the Army drug me to louisiana, I may be of some assistance if you're going to the right GMU

find a gate the is fs and closed and hike in.....there are some gates that say closed road, but are actually privately owned and they allow quad access. it is frustrating till you know your way around.

Couple buddies are out in Newport right now for the week. They are seeing alot of deer running around. So far they have seen 3 bucks for sure and a ton of doe in 4 days. Good luck up there its fun to hunt the whitetail.

GMU, i'd say 117 or 113. I'm honestly just going with the flow this weekend. My uncle went over and scouted a couple weeks ago so we got that covered. This is my first time hunting east of the mountains, so I'm pretty excited! Thanks for the comments guys.

Tons of deer up there, just a matter of the right place at the right time. Last year we had some awesome bucks on the trailcams, too bad they were all nocturnal. Plenty of moose up there also.
