Post by: ducksdoom12 on October 21, 2010, 12:50:52 PM

good lord h2o, how many days do u not limit in a season? I really wish i could just take 3 month off from school and work to go out every day :bash: but then again, thats why i am going to school, so I can get a good enough job to be able to do that.

its been a teal game for me so far. I have seen a ton of pintails also but the teal are thick right now.
my before break total is 15 teal (all brown no drakes) four hen pintails, one hen mallard and one drake.. and then there was the crippled snow goose that sailed away from the flock and flew past me.

I will start posting pics in Nov., Dec. and Jan.  The birds will be better.  I shot a pair of bull sprigs, but they were still in color phase.  I did shoot a limit of greenheads that wasn't to bad.

H2Ofowler ,how do you find the time ?????
I cannot get myself from work early enough ,and weekends lately suck. There is always some distraction like friend needs the bathroom tiled or needs help with moving or wife has some plans and there is guilt .... my biggest enemy. I'm sure there is couple of guys here ,who don't hunt as often because they feel guilty to leave the wife (or husband) behind at home .
By the way great numbers ,post some pics .

My passion is waterfowl.  My family will start calling and asking for help again in Feb.  They know how I get during waterfowl season.
The biggest key is to try to hunt smart.  I go to the birds and try to make quick hunts out of it.  I like to hit the tides or the first 30-45 minutes in the morning or evening.  If there are a few birds flying, it doesn't take long to limit.  I also hunt by myself typically or with a few on weekends.  That way I am not sitting there waiting for the other guys to fill there limit.  On Monday my first shot came about 8 minutes after opener and I was finished up 15 minutes later.  Then off to work.

Sounds like your doing it right.
Love the quick limits at times.Lets you get some chores done so they dont pile up on you at the end of season.

I am married with 3 little ones.  If I made it an all day adventure I would have even more time on my hands or so the wife claims.

i think access on smith farm is still dicey. it was funny watching all the non locals stop at the bridge where the road is closed and try and figure out what to do on opening morning... it was even funnier seeing all the folks who woke up late, stop at the road closure 10-20 minutes before shooting time. I was hoping most of those guys were the usual johnny come lately- opening day decoy poachers experiencing bad karma. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I've also had a great first part of season but I have been after the geese more so far and will really get after the ducks in November.  So far for the season 39 geese, including early goose, and 28 ducks not to bad to start the season off.  Looking forward to a push of good northern birds.  I have a great app on my Iphone that logs every hunt it makes it easier to remember all these important issues.
