Title: Let one go
Post by: markts on October 24, 2010, 06:19:07 PM
So this afternoon I am glassing a flat at about 400yds and see deer. One of them is clearly a buck as I can see large bases. But I see no other horn :dunno: He is beatin the hell out of an alder tree.  First thought -his horns are cut off.  So I climb back up the hill to retrieve the spottin scope, sure enough its got big bases and about 2inch spikes laid back coming out of the front portion of these knarly bases, never seen anything like it. His little buddy hadnt even broke through the hide yet :chuckle: Oh well the search continues.

anyone else confused??? 2'' spikes going straight back in front of his bases, could this be a bigger buck with points coming off his bases?  From what I've learned in all my years of hunting, spikes don't have big bases.

My spike last year had big bases, size of silver dollars and knots all around them.
One side the spike was 7", the other side, barely 1".

Thanks Fishncliff-you understand what I saw-as for the comedian I was lookin at him through my Gold Ring spotter. Silver dollar knarly bases with pencil size spikes coming out of the front portion of the base. Maybe I should draw a picture :chuckle: And in all my years I have never seen a buck like this either :dunno:
