Well I know we still got 1 weekend left for BT, but thought I would try to get some help on Elk before it gets here. I know my chances this year with 0 scouting is slim to none. I am new to washington... I could really use some advice on a decent place to hit for elk within about 1.5 hours of fort lewis. I am willing to walk my butt off, I just really dont know where to go. I have heard that Willapa hills is a decent area, but also very crowded. I'm sure most public areas during modern are crowded though. So basically any good advice on a decent place, close, and for someone that doesn't know the country very well yet. And if you knew of a place to camp in the area that area. Thanks for the help
PS I will be putting in the miles next year scouting for these suckers. I really wish I had the chance this year.

There is alot of people... But we always hunt Winston Creek... It has paid off several times for us. Last year we got a nice 5x6 Bull. But this year the gates are locked and walk in only. I have heard that the Weyco gate is open off SalmonBerry Road which is off Winston Creek RD but I'm not sure. We are going there again this year. We have some nice "honey holes". My dad is a Disabled Vet and still works for JBLM civil service. He got 60% disibility and can camp for free at state parks. We are Camping at the IKE Kinswa state park. Its only about a 6 mile drive to any gate for we can walk in or drive up in the Weyco land. Just a idea for you man.... Good Luck!!
