Title: My sons 1st deer
Post by: Martinhunter on October 29, 2010, 07:46:05 PM
Took my boy out last night, and just before dark we found a little spike for him. It was the oddest thing, this deer when we 1st spotted it was about 50 yards into a clear cut and as soon as he saw us he started walking right at us and never stopped until my son pulled the trigger at 10 yards. :IBCOOL: He shot him in the mouth witch tore up his face pretty bad so I wont show the whole deer. Neddless to say My boy was pumped after his 1st kill. Hopefully from here on out he will get into hunting more

Looks just like my son's first deer. Who was more excited, you or him? I am really happy for both of you. Tell him GOOD HUNTING!

That's a patient young hunter to let him walk up that close.  I'd have been blazing away immediately.  Well done!

Congrats. It's not uncommon at all for spikes to walk up on people. Our last hunt in Vail a spike walked right up to us within 30yds of us and bedded down. We had lunch, took a nap and he was still there two hours later... Had one walk up and sniff me two days before the modern opener near Elbe one time. They aren't too bright in the first year, then you throw in a little rut action....

I know , by the looks in the pics he almost looks upset. Let me tell you though he was very excited when he saw his 1st deer go down. I was to though.

Good job!  Bet he was pretty stoked seeing the deer to begin with, but holding it together while it walked towards him...bet he was ready to bust!

Pretty good to be that close to your first deer and not be shaking. Good shot and congrats.  :)
