Hey guys thanks for all the comments! Jim that buck you got isn't nice. Its awesome. This was the last day I would have been able to hunt until the late season so I new the pressure was on. I got to this area I have been hunting about an hour and half before light. I hiked around with my headlight on to get in far before light. When first light hit I was not where I wanted to be, it was hard to navigate in the dark.haha. So after being frustrated I hiked to a spot that I knew a buck was around, but I hadn't got a look at him yet. This spot I am hunting has no clearcuts and is really thick which is why i grabed the shotgun instead of the rifle. I like open sights for those thick cover shots. So I start moving through the thick brush slowly glassing holes in the brush, it was so thick. after about an hour I could see this little clearing in the trees where I have sat before. I made a wrong turn through the thickness and could not make it through so I sat down on a log and listened. Didn't hear anything got a drink of water and started to work my way around. As soon as I hit this little opening I set my pack down and started creeping slowly along the edge, when I heard some twigs snappin and some brush movin. First thought was another hunter, but had my doubts because I have never seen anybody in this particular area because its so thick and difficult to get into. So I freeze and stand still. I see movement and then I see this buck with his head down, I new right away he was a shooter and rose my shotgun slowly. He cleared the timber and was 20 yards from me. I had a bead on him clicked the safety off and squeezed one off, and pretty much blew him off his feet. Ended up double lunging him, and he was down and done with in seconds. I was super pumped and was solo so I was glad I brought the tripod. Its kinda of funny I packed all my gear around early in the season and finally I would get some use out of it. Luckily I had service on this ridge I was on. Called a buddy who rode his mountain bike in and helped me with the pack out. It pays to have good friends.
