Title: One of those moments you'd like back...
Post by: Tony 270 on October 31, 2010, 08:06:46 PM
So got a late start this morning getting into the field. Because of that I drove into an open gate area and took the first road that branched off. Seems most like to go as far back as they can thinking it betters their odds. Drove towards the end with clearcuts on both sides, but beyond the cut on the left is heavily wooded. With that late start I wasn't even in my hunting gear so took a few minutes to get that on. I glass for a few minutes on the right side, without the treeline then am about to head to the other side as a truck comes pulling up. Asks what way I'm headed, let him know... he spotted four does and a legal buck up there and said I was there first. Very nice of him, was very tempted to let him go after it since I didn't even know about it. Go up there and catch a slight glimpse of a deer making it into the trees. Late start, took my time to get changed, glassed the wrong side... one minute would have made all the difference. Thought about it all day long too.

Went into the trees hoping to find them with no luck, but did find my first chanterelle! About six of them close together, just finished eating them. Some butter and garlic, pan fried. Pretty good :)
