woodman was talking about this while we were setting traps yesterday..What do you guys think about a little derby or something like that..Or just a friendly competition...I think it would be a blast,,,,
-
Could be interesting. Bring your own boat or charter style???? I have never been there.
-
bring your own boat or bum a ride...
-
Did you guys talk specific timing? Winter Blackies (soon) and bottom fish or summer Salmon?
-
hoping woodman will chime in here, would be nice to get salmon and bottomfish
-
I typed out a response and it timed out and just disappeared, let me try again.
-
heres one from this year, joe caught it on MY rod LOL..I had a blast.we nailed them.It was my first real trip on the salt for salmon,we caught a ton of fish, released a lot of wilds

This conversation yesterday with Rasbo was from remembering times past when we would have a guy's only weekend up there.
We would gather a group of guys for a weekend of fishing. We would bring a few boats and lots of guys. We would fish late spring for sea bass, ling cod and other bottom fish. While doing this we would watch whales, eagles, seals and sea lions. There is great scenery up there to look at also. You are very close to Cape Flattery which has been featured on national programs as one of the most scenic views in the country. This is where the Straights of Juan De Fuca meets the Pacific Ocean.
We would do this in the late spring before salmon season starts and it becomes a nut house up there. We would have fish feeds and meet guys that had many great conversations and made new long term relationships. We even had people fly in from out of state, it was a blast. We even drank a little beer! :) I can tell you that the times spent up there will be cherished as some great quality time in life.
There are places to rent along with rv spots and tent spots. I did not know if there would be any interest in this, but thought that maybe some might be interested.
Thanks Rasbo for bringing this up. I remember the first year that I did this, I was not sure if I would want to. A Friend of mine talked me into it and we did it for years annually after that.

The Bottom fish at Sekui really have gotten hit hard over the years. Small limits and not many fish. Neah would be better for this but its a 20 or so mile run from Sekui to good fishing.
Bottom fish opens May 1. Salmon, (Blackmouth), open till April. Then not again till July.
Snow creek would be better for a bottom fish trip if Neah is out.
-
Coarse if ya dont mind crowds, July would be a great time for Salmon.
-
I could be talked into attending such an event, I have a 30' 5ver and a 21' Glasply I could bring to share ;) and I agree that neah bay would be better then Sekiu but lapush would be much better yet but that would be up to who is in charge !!
-
heck august was great fishing..

The reason we stayed a Sekiu was because of the accommodations and launches. Snow Creek can not launch larger boats due to the type of operation that they have there, sling and rail system. They also are exposed to the winds which has beat the snot out of one of my boats in the past. Snow Creek also is a pretty small resort for a group from what I remember. I agree with you about Sekiu limits and being hammered. I can motor from Sekiu to area 4 that has better fishing and larger limits pretty quickly in my boat. I run to Snow Creek in my boat each time that I go up there.
I would be happy to participate with any season and fish anywhere up there. I was starting a conversation with Rasbo that worked very well in the past. If anyone has better suggestions that people would enjoy, I think that would be great!

Let's do both! :)

I havent been to neah bay,but sekui seemed like ya could duck some bad weather and still catch a fish :dunno:

I'm in, but need to bum a seat on a boat :fishin:
It would be a blast to get together and fish with you all on here.
-
Sounds fun. Just need to know when! Need me some Sea Bass.... Yum
-
sounds fun! This going to be a humpy year. I could care less about them but for those that just want to get out with the family and get the young kids into lots of fish you might want to make this trip! I have a friend that lives there and he's telling me they might have over 1 billion of them darn humpys go by this year. I'm thinking about taking my little girl up just so she can experience it!
my sugestion is for this event to be right in the peek of the humpy run. It should be numbers never seen before. Great family fun!

I'm on ,Sekiu or Neah Bay. Count me in along with my buddy (if he doesn't bail on me ) .I need some salmon ...........
-
ya humpy fishing at sekiu is insane fun! Sekiu is also fishable for more people that may not be comfortable or have enough boat for neah bay or lapush. I would probably be in
-
May be up for it. Maybe I missed it, but when is the Humpy peak up there?
-
usually august is when we've caught a pile of them up there
-
Thanks........
-
I agree that August is a good time for salmon fishing at Sekiu.
If the season next year is like this year, the Kings will be open until August 15Th. If that is the case, you can catch and keep Kings, Coho's and Humpies. That does add up to a lot of catching and fun. July typically is early for any Coho of any size.
When Rasbo and myself went up this last August, even though it was not a Humpie year, we did a lot of catching. This next year should just be that much better since it is a Humpie year.

Humpy Fest 2011, sounds like fun....

thats not fair man... the pink that is in that can prolly sat in the bottom of a fish hold for ever whole ungutted and taste like dog crap but imo if you bleed them and ice them right away the taste absolutely fine. I know im probably going to get blasted for being a lowlife pink eater but hey i think theyre pretty good :dunno:

I agree with bowtech721

Didn't say I didn't like it...just giving him a quick opportunity to try some. I've taken them in rivers and they were fine...obviously not sockeye, but good if taken care of as bowtech says. :)
-
I do not eat Sheep brains or pig feet either..... But some people do... :chuckle:
Actually had some friends they would catch alot of the fresh pinks in Valdez and smoke them to give as gifts to lower 48 families and keep the reds/silvers for their own consumption....
