Step dad seen a few cows and a couple bulls across the highway in 117 on saturday morning. These were up on chewelah peak. As far as 121 an uncle of mine and a friend of his usually camp somewhere on 121 (don't know exactly where), and they usually see about twice as many moose than they do elk. Good luck.

thanks everyone, we will be up there this weekend and next for the late whitetail, noticed in the regs this weekend is closing weekend for any elk in the huckleberry.  was just curious about our chances of running in to elk, we were up there 2 years ago and ran into more moose than anything else

Chances arent good but there is a chance. I've hunted/cut wood up there for almost 30 years and they've eluded me. I believe they head to the Rez as soon as shooting starts. That said HB is a big unit and I only know a small portion of it. I have seen/heard elk but never while in season..........................................Except a few dead ones that were shot by someone else.  :bash: Good luck. Whitetails can be had for sure but elk are very hit and miss.

I was wondering the same. Thats why I brought this thread back up. In the two years that I have hunted this unit, I see plenty of sign just no animals. I like the fact that it is any elk, problem is finding them.

I saw 7 about 6-7 weeks ago. All cows. This one is a secret where they're at.

Nope. The only clue I'll say is, timber property, which in this area is open to hunting. My lips are sealed my friend.  :sry:

hunted it last year with some guys who live in colville and they both got some while i didnt.  saw tons of sign though and it was any elk to boot.  just have to put in the time and find the local herds during the summers.

From what I've experienced with the elk in this area is they move a lot and by season start, they are nowhere near where you thought they would be. :)
