Title: Are the whitetail in rut yet?

Post by: NWBREW on November 03, 2010, 12:36:58 PM: Just came back fron GMU 111. Saw a few starter scrapes that were not there two weeks ago but no chasing going on. I saw only smaller bucks....nothing interested in the does we saw. Rut still out a week or two in my opinion. I will be over hunting on the 14th....should be going by then I hope.

Post by: alwinearcher on November 03, 2010, 04:20:08 PM: I have found a bunch of scrapes in the past 3 or 4 days. Some that appear to be very active.
I have also gotten several pictures of new mature bucks passing by my trail cams. They are on the move for sure!

Post by: Magnum_Willys on November 04, 2010, 12:58:31 AM: Last weekend - the 29th - these two bucks were following a pair of does with swelled necks and after my buddy dropped the first one the other just stood there and waited his turn. If its not rut its a heavy pre-rut.

Post by: Gutpile on November 04, 2010, 03:08:32 PM: I saw a big old hog today here in town strutting his stuff to a smaller buck. Right off a busy road. I believe it's defintely starting. This was an AWESOME deer. Sure wish I had a camera. :bash:

I think i posted these in another thread... Not monsters but nice to see new bucks showing up.

Post by: buman31 on November 08, 2010, 07:07:10 AM: Just got back from Unit 111. Saw a ton of does running around in the woods. No bucks chasing them yet, at least where I was tromping around. It was really warm over there, probably got up to around 50 degrees in the afternoon. I'm no expert on rut patterns but it seems to me that they rut when the cold hits and it certainly has not hit yet. Its supposed to be cold over there this weekend. Hopefully that will get it started.

Post by: Camo on November 08, 2010, 05:19:57 PM: I'm no expert on timing, but I rattled in a buck for my daughter that we blew out on Sat afternoon, and another guy rattled one in and shot it on Sun am. The neck was swollen and the tarsal glands were dripping. Seen the first few rubs Sat. morning, seen two nice (dead) 4x4's on the drive home yesterday with almost no traffic on the road, one was really a toad. Kinda makes me think the bucks are starting to get serious.

Thanks for the update on the rut! Taking my 12 yr daughter over tomarrow evening, and will be hunting til Sunday. I just hope to get her a decent shot! Dosent have to be a monster, just something with horns.
I got a 5x6 in 96' near Browns lake, 99th in the washington record heads book. But i will be damned if i can remember exactly where!!! :bash:

Post by: dscubame on November 08, 2010, 10:23:08 PM: I live in North Spokane County. Had a big 5 whitetail chasing around three doe in my back yard tonight at dusk. Went on for 20 minutes and continued as I went back into the shop for the evening.
