Title: MHWash and Gutpiles Elk Follies
Post by: Gutpile on November 03, 2010, 05:06:05 PM
Well we had a GREAT time. The weather was just nasty at times and beautifull at other times. We saw some elk, not as many as last time but we got into them. On the second day I saw a cow moving through the timber followed by another and another. MH was counting 2-4-8-12, 18 SPIKE!!! It was still to dark as we were in a hole so I had to hold fire. I was in postition to make an easy rested shot at 200 yards or so but we just needed a little more time. BOOM and the herd scatters. Some guy saw the same herd and took a hurried shot. The spike had started moving into the timber right towards us when the other hunter decided to start slinging lead. Anyhow the whole herd did end up right in front of me at about 100-150 yards EXCEPT the spike.  :'(  :'(   :'(   I saw him sneaking up through the timber and get away. So my quest for my first elk continues. This was as close as it gets with no shot fired. What a great time though.

MH has a better story.  :chuckle: I'll give you a hint. 75 yards...... not one but two spikes all alone on a hillside. I'll let him tell the story when he settles in.  :chuckle: :chuckle:
