in your opinion should elk taken from a reservation like this be able to be entered in the BC and PY books considering they are free ranging elk? why or why not.
-
yep if they are free ranging then ya i think they should. their managed just like most units are. :dunno:
-
I agree, the San Carlos Elk are managed well (as long as you are talking about San Carlos, AZ), just like hunting on a private ranch. Any trophy should be included in the books.

The San Carlos Reservation encompasses over 1.9 million acres. The elk (plus all wildlife) are free ranging and there are no high fences. The elk freely move to and from the San Carlos to the 2.0 million+ acre White Mountain reservation on the north and also to and from State land to the south and east. The tribe (unlike many of Washington's tribes) view their elk and other wildlife (deer/antelope/bear, etc) as a resource and they manage all extremely by providing limited hunting opportunities for both tribal members and non-tribal members. Should their elk and other species be in the records books...in my opinion, absolutely!!
-
Absolutely! As an incentive to those tribes, the bigger the bulls, the more $ to hunt them. I think they also have some management hunts for less $. Big business for those guys

What Legacy said.

I passed a Colville truck this afternoon with two guys with rifles in the gun racks. 6 bucks sticking out of the back. All nice ones. Think that happens on the Jicarilla?
