Post by: krout81 on November 05, 2010, 03:44:51 AM
Hi there I am an Archery hunter for 18 years.  When I return home I want to get a rifle for bear and incase I get an all seasons tag one that will work for Deer and Elk as well.  I want Semi-auto Any Suggestions.

I would look at an Ar 15 in 25 wssm, 300 ossm, 6.5 sporter/6.5 grendal, 6.8 spc, 458 socom, 30ar, 358 wssm, 338 wssm, 7mm wssm and Im sure there are more cals that would work. The great thing about the AR is there is a huge after market for it and we all know they are tried and true  :twocents:

Probably best to buy the BAR.  But if it's not going to see a lot of use, and long shots(300+) are not in your plans, can't go wrong with Remington 740,742,or 7400.  And you can usually find them pretty cheap. My Mom's 30-06 in 7400 still shoots lights out with 180gr remington corelokts.  Have heard some complaints of accuracy, although have heard it usually explained to be copper fouling.

AR 10 in 7mm-08 or AR 15 in .450 Bushmaster.

Couldn't have said it better.  Have uppers in 17 Remington, 223 (of course), 25 WSSM, and will have one in 17 Practical and 30 OSSM soon.  Antelope don't like the 25 WSSM at all.  My wife even wants one for next year when we go speed goat hunting again.

Only if you buy over priced remington built AR's, I've handled a few and always put them down in disgust. No AR that costs so much should have such a pile of crap for a trigger. The camo job is nice...

:chuckle: that's funny! i have the first 2 groups i have shot out of that gun. the first 2 ;) both are well under 1/2 at 100 yards. it is one of the best shooting guns i have ever shot. o and its dpms that build the r-25 for Remington and the r-15 is built by bushmaster ;) all 3 are sister companies :hello: and price them against other 308/ar-10 and they are not that much ;)

Sorry I know what it costs to build vs buy and there is no excuse for that horrific trigger at that price point.

Don't you live in eastern Wa? If not you're on!

If we lived closer I would take you up on that! I'm always interested in shooting something new, I would be happy to let you try my AR, I put a RRA NM fcg in it and it really made that rifle easy to shoot

BTW, if you ARE in eastern Wa, I would still like to shoot yours...Just show me some rockchucks  :P

live in goldendale wa, so about as south as you can get in washington but still on the east side. :IBCOOL:

the r-25 is a bit heavy for sure but it i can't pack a 10lb rifle, at 6'1 and 260lbs i should not be hunting :chuckle: my sako i hunt with weighs more and then some. :yike: weight does not bother me much. i also pack a 45lb rifle from time to time so it makes the 10lb'er feel pretty light ;) :chuckle:

I would stick to the ar15 over the ar10 its a lot cheaper to play with a ar15. Both AR's can shoot under moa and are hard to hurt.

here is the first 2 groups i ever shot with the r-25. i grabed my 7mm-08 rounds that i had loaded up for my weatherby cfp and the r-25 loves them

my cuzz got the 308win and i am loading almost the same loads for his gun. and it shoots them very well 2.

i think i'm going to get me one of those R25's in 7mm08. then I'll get a DPMS in 338 Federal.  The wife will probably approve the purchase when pigs fly.
