Went out with a couple buddies on the east side. 150 yrds out of the truck about 30 birds get up as usual too far. Amazingly a stupid one flushed toward me. Easy right to left crossing at 30 yards. I suceeded to miss my first two shots, and was staggering around falling down hill on the 3rd shot. Now the bird is out to 50 and going mach 4. I figure it must have been the rotation of the third moon on jupiter, because it certainly was not my shooting prowess, but that sucker flew into a stray BB on my 3rd shot! Dead as a rock, and I even found him! First chuckar in 4 years. I was completely amazed and happy. Good day.
It got better. 100 yrds later, a blind, very slow bird flapped up and I nailed him! 2 for the last 2.
30 min later, the slowest chuckar I've ever seen flew gently up hill, looking more like a helium balloon rather than the gray streak most chuckars appear, and I drilled him too! 3 birds in 3 shots after a typical start.
I left an hour later, happy as I've ever been, and ate the 3 dumbest chuckars ever born in Eastern WA.

Congrats on your success. We local purists pass on those gimme birds and just shoot at the gray streaks - we want the gimmes to survive to breed :P
I actually have used that several times in my life to explain what the hell I was doing. I also told a guy once that I was trying to shoot one at a 100 yards because it was more of a challenge to me..LOL :chuckle:

Dang your shooting BB's at chuckars!! Thats a pretty large shot size...dont most people shoot 6-8's? I've hunted them a ton in Nevada and I used to use 6's. I shoot BB's at geese and thats with steel shot!
:P just giving you crap man!! Nice job. Isnt there a saying about Chuckar hunting "the first time you hunt them is out of intrigue every time thereafter is for revenge!" or something like that. Anyhow, good job!

EXACTLY!!!!!! poor guy
you will now spend countless hours killing yourself in hopes of repeating your one successfull hunt. I had a great day a few years back down in juntura pulled a triple on one covey and ended with a limit for 3 guys, since then my best has been 3 in 2 days!

You freeze for a minute, then back out of sight. After another minute, you ease forward. The sentry spots you and announces your presence to the world. You repeat this cycle for an eternity. Suddenly, an invisible hand from behind smacks that bird off his rock in a shower of feathers!
Unseen by the sentry, your trailing buddy backed off and looped around to come in from behind that loudmouth. Occupied with keeping an eye on you and announcing your presence to the world, he failed to detect the creeping death approaching from behind.
You regroup, admire the slain sentry's corpse, then follow along behind your buddy. Next flock, he will be the decoy while you assassinate the sentry.

Slid probably 100ft on my arse to a very sudden stop, while holding a 12 ga over my head. Some brusing of the shins and sore knees from sidehilling while sliding downhill. Brutal, but a blast at the same time. Can't wait to go again. It has be couple of years for me. Maybe will be couple before the next time as well.
