Title: NE WA White Tails are Rutting Hard
Post by: Austrian Hunter on November 09, 2010, 12:40:23 PM
This is crazy, I've been told that North East Washington White Tails are rutting hard, now  :yike:  Here is a pic and yes I have permission of a rutting buck shot during Modern.  The hunter is Dick, congrats to a beauty of a WT buck.  And congrats to Sherman Creek Outfitter who guided Dick to this awesome buck!!

The white tail bucks are just beginning to follow the does around. Friend of mine saw two small bucks trailing a doe yesterday evening. He also saw a large buck following a doe just at dark. They do not all start at the same time. We are about 10-14 days from when I see the most activity. (bucks chasing does in the middle of the day)

I've got 4 whitetail bucks hanging around buggin' me. I did see a buck charge at the doe 2 days ago, but that's it. Maybe I'll be lucky tomorrow and get rid of the biggest buck of them all. My first year bowhunting. If I do, I'll post pictures.

I have not seen the bucks rutting hard yet.  I am finding some scrapes and seeing many does.  Usually I start seeing the bucks looking for does (pre-rut) around the 11th.

Still in the pre rut around here.  Scrapes and rubs, but no bucks with the does yet.  Lets hope this cold front is enough to push em over the edge.

This is the first year I have rifle hunted in years. Where I live is permit only and I wanted to stay close to home this year. So I got drew on the Palouse tag. I bow hunt for the rut! When I rifle hunted before, it always got going the last few days of the season. Exactly what is going to happen in this area.
On Sunday, Rick Landers wrote a piece on the Whitetail rut in the Spokesman Review. Exactly as I thought, the peak is normally the 23rd of the month in Washington. Funny that the game department changed the bow season after the 23rd for this reason. The same goes for elk season. The bulls start peaking around the 23rd-25th of September.  :bs:
Thats why I love Montana. Only I will have to work harder to go with the prices for out of staters going from $643 to $897  :bdid: :bs:

Spent the entire elk season in unit 105 and can say I didn't see enough whitetails to count on both hands and never saw a set of horns!

My thoughts exactly. Don't get me wrong.....that is a fine buck. Where i hunt those are the first ones to go....the bigger ones come out a little later. For rifle.....the last three days are the days to be watching.

From past experience Thanksgiving week is usually the best week to hunt them!  Seems to be the peak of the rut is between the 20th - 25th... Our trail cameras start picking up bigger bucks every year around the 15th and everyday after the 15th it seems our odds increase of seeing a more mature deer through thanksgiving week.

Just got a report from my buddy in Republic.  The only thing rutting hard over there is him.  He has seen a couple of dink bucks nose around some does but nothing is happening other than them being chased off or kicked by the does.

Every year I keep hearing how the Rut gets earlier and earlier for NE washington's Whiteys....Hell any earlier and we'll be seeing them chase does in Aug. Ya you'll catch a few towards the end of late rifle but the most rut action I see here is around the tail end of this month on into that first week of December.

It's because of "global warming"!  They are all confused with the earth's changing climate so they don't know when they are supposed to breed.   :chuckle:
