Title: Coyotes in town
Post by: Tony on November 10, 2010, 03:17:42 PM: Since i don't have a copy of the game regs. with me is it legal to shoot a Coyote with my bow that is on our company property in the Port of Tacoma with our owners permission?

Post by: fishwhackin on November 10, 2010, 03:22:15 PM: Sorry, no copy of the regs here at work and it didn't want to download for me from the web, but I would say it is Legal to do so as long as there is no city ordinance against shooting a bow in the city limits.

Funniest place I ever saw a coyote was outside the Portland Expo Center while going to a Sportsmans show. Right between the expo center and PIR actually. All those hunters... someone would have loved to pop him if they could have.

Post by: Fl0und3rz on November 11, 2010, 09:18:11 AM: Don't know specifically about Port of Tacoma, but I could not find anything in the Pierce County Code that would prohibit shooting a bow in the county for your specified conditions. However, you should satisfy yourself that that is the case, as well as whether there are any animal cruelty type of ordinances that might bear on what you want to do (this is not a moral judgment - just saying for your protection.

As a general proposition, counties and municipalities only prevent such archery activities within the parks under their authority. This is the case for my municipality (rather large one) and I would shoot a bow in my back yard after having search the code for such prohibitions.

For those of you wishing to check the city and county codes for similar questions, you can typically find them at the link below if your city and county participates. I don't know how stale this information gets. That is, I am not sure how frequently these are updated as the respective codes change.

If your Google-fu is lacking, keep in mind that you can use Google to search the WAC and RCW (and likely the MRSC) by using the Google "site:" operator.

For instance, the search string "firearm site:http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/" will return all instances at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/ (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/) that have the word firearm.

As a further example, after following the MRSC for Tacoma I tried the search, "firearm site:http://cms.cityoftacoma.org/cityclerk/Files/MunicipalCode/", in Google. You could do the same for your terms of interest such as arrow, bow, archery, etc.

Post by: btlsoom on November 18, 2010, 10:04:03 PM: I am in Bonney Lake and I actually stopped a Sheriff which was parked in a field buy some woods around Lake Tapps and I asked if it was legal to shoot / hunt with a bow in the area. He indicated it was as long as I had the owners permission for the lands. I do not know how that related to the Tacooma area but it is Pierce County. Hence, as long as you are on private property with owner permission, sounds legal. BUT, that being said, I would still verify what the ruling would be in Tacooma. Besides, most of the time they want the critters gone..
