Lots more of him to come. I had him within 20 yards for almost 45 minutes. I kept switching to my smaller lens so I could get full body shots of him he was so close. I finally left so I could pursue some other deer. THAT was FUN!

When I first found him it was foggy. I was torqued as I had spent several hours after a BIG one and never got a pic becasue of the fog. I was right on the fog line with this guy and LUCK was on my side. It would come and go and my shutter was firing.

That body is Ginormous.
Ok! I'll show my ignorance. Being a previous flatlander and whitetail hunter I hope this doesn't sound to stupid. But are the mulies more tolerant of human presence? I have had lots of close encounters with whitetail deer, but never for 20 minutes, usually just fraction of a second.

Post by: boneaddict on November 12, 2010, 07:44:09 AM: Only when they are rutted up. You essentially can't beat them off the doe. If you don't scare the doe, then you won't scare the buck. That is why they are so vulnerable during the rut and why rut hunts really knock out the big boys. Sure its fun to have the tag in your pocket but.....

Now you can work this to your advantage too as sometimes the does are trying to get the bucks away from them and will try to come camp in your pocket. Its all about reading them. Just like reading people. There are all kinds.

Just give the GPS Loc and I will be your beacon. I promise I will let you hold them if I find em. :chuckle: Just dont tell 509er or Antlerking. They are viscious. They find more horns than a trained dog.

Post by: boneaddict on November 16, 2010, 11:49:29 AM: Thanks. I also ran into him about a week later. He was with the solo wolf. I thought I was going to see some action. I had cut the wolf track, and was tromping along in the fresh snow. I spotted Hood, and was shooting, then another buck. They both had their doe. The hood was about 3 minutes from mounting, then imagine he would have taken over the smaller guys deer. Then all of a sudden two does came streaking through the bunch going MACH5....ALL OUT. I was expecting a wolf on their ass. The deer scattered. Then 5 minutes passes and everyone continued on. I have no idea what caused the does to come streaking through.
