this is a winter kill bull i found during the archery season in o6..it had both whistlers. pretty proud of it.. as i have the worst luck finding sheds and such.
-
I do not know the rules in MT but I am pretty sure in Washington you cannot take any antlers attached to a scull. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Still a cool find and I would be tempted to take it home!
-
ya i would like to know the rules on that to gunna head up and try to find the buck my buddy lost last year once the snow clears
-
I bleieve it is still legal in Montana, except for sheep, but Washington its as illegal as HELL.
-
I know a fella that found a pretty nice winter killed bull this past weekend!
-
yeah it is legal in mt,, but your right, bone, about the sheep. not even alowwed to touch them. i had no idea that you couldnt keep winter kills in wa....bs if you ask me.
-
Defenitely illegal in Wash. and don't feel bad most guys don't know about it either. My brother found a bull last fall and we had to turn it in to fish and game after someone saw the pics of it with my bull on the net, you can read my story on the fiasco on the elk forum a few months ago. I understand why they have the law for the scumbag poachers who kill animals and leave them till spring but there should be a way for a legit winterkill to be kept like in N Mexico. nwhunter

I agree, NM has it down. Course their game department is a bit better organized than ours.
-
so if we do find we are we have to leave it lay that sux anybody know the fine
-
I was told the fine was the same as if you poached an elk.

Makes sense.

You can try and be sneaky with it :chuckle: or saw/break the antlers off as if they were sheds
-
the game warden I spoke with my elk as_holes acted like WA skull= poaching if no tag attached. :dunno:
but never seen the regs
-
who cares F*&^% the police. nice find. Same type of thing why they enforce picking up roadkill. I have heard that people have shot bulls and left them in a tree and picked them up in the spring. When said person did not have a tag.
-
or saw/break the antlers off as if they were sheds
I know a local hero that does that sort of thing...wonder if thats why the gamies are after him? Then make a hat about it...now thats class. Sorry I degress for a moment.
-
There was a man at the Big Horn Show in Spokane that didn't know either. He entered a deer skull with antlers to be scored. He said it was a cougar kill he found and it did have holes in the snout area that looked like teeth.

true...you can not take any bones. or antlers attached to a skull.

dont know why we gotta bringout the rule books on every post.. it was found in the maynard drainage of mt.. its legal. like i said,, i have the worst luck with finding sheds, so im pretty dang happy.

Some people just read a portion of the topic and just make responses or feel the need. I have been guilty from time to time but I try not to. I know what you mean though. It's not like you didn't read it the first 2 times. :dunno:
-
i have seen a lot of wanna be fish hawks. :police: :pee:
-
whats a fish hawk? besides the obvious?

Some of it is comraderie and they don't want a fellow member to incriminate himself on here. The game boys are watching. For instance...when Polarbear pulled his April Fools joke, I got about 20 pms or emails alerting me to it as they were afraid he was going to get busted. Serious concern. I was pretty darn sure he was April Fooling, so let them know that. Then alot of them went  He got me. It was of serious concern for him. Point is, its easy to break a game law, and we sort of like to educate, or don't want folks to get into trouble. Then there are those are are just pains in the butts. Rightfully so, its hard to walk away from a nice elk skull out there later to have some guy who doesn't know the rule book, walk home with it and be proud as hell, escaping all justice. I have to admit, I find that a bit frustrating.
-
as long as montana has no qualms, i do not either. :)
-
i still think its a pretty handsome find.
-
ABSOLUTELY DUDE! I'd be happy as hell. I use to bring every skull I found home. Now I just take pics. :(
-
Nice find!

Fish Hawk= game warden. Sometimes i guess i get fed up with the fact that everyone is so quick to throw someone under the bus to benefit themselves. I here it all the time that someone is so proud to win 10 points but not proud of the fact that they helped stop someone who is killing game unlawfully or as i like to say killing it with out need. I am starting to get off topic but that is how i feel. My hunting partner is a walking game book also and sometimes it gets on my nerves. I know lots of people who go out of there way to break the rules but it is not my place to police them. Anyway that is a great find legal or not.
-
Its a damn nice find. Too bad the pic has to be put on defense and picked apart before it gets appreciated.
-
So did u hang it up in your house or what?
-
Good question.....mount it....garage it.....put it on the fence......lets hear it.
-
I saw one in goldendale that a guy was letting his dog use it for a chew toy. I bet it was a 350 bull. please tell me you did not do this.
-
yeah it is legal in mt,, but your right, bone, about the sheep. not even alowwed to touch them. i had no idea that you couldnt keep winter kills in wa....bs if you ask me.
I feel this is why people bring out the rule book on this forum,to educate a fellow hunter that might not know the rules so he or she does not get busted out in the field! We all have been educated from this site and from post like this.
-
yeah, but the first few responses is good enough for me. dont need everyone telling me. i do read most things chronologicly
-
so whatd ya do with it?
-
Good find MountainW. I apologize for bringing up the law and raining on your parade. Its hard to walk away from a set of horns no matter what state they are in if you love horns and I don't care what people do I just want guys to know the rules , especially this one, because a lot of people don't. nwhunter

Just slap an old tag to it and you're good to go.
