Title: Missouri Trip
Post by: Machias on November 16, 2010, 08:47:48 AM
Just got home last night from 11 days in Missouri.  Had a lot of FUN.  Managed to get three deer, one spike buck with my bow and 2 big does with my rifle.  All three deer came in the last half hour of each hunt, the spike was taken the last half hour of the early archery season and I shot both does the last half hour of yesterday morning's hunt, before I had to pack and get to the airport.  I managed to get them out of the woods, skinned and to the meat processor, showered and packed and to the Airport with a whole 45 minutes to spare.   :)  Pretty tough hunting conditions this year as most of the 11 days was mid 70s and breezy.  Didn't get alot of movement until just a little before dark.  Had two very nice bucks come in, one 45 minutes before shooting light, walked past my bow, which was on the ground while I was strapping myself to the tree.  He walked within 5 feet of the bow, looked like a big 4x4 or 5x5, hard to tell in the red light from my headlamp.  And then I had a big 4x4 (might have been the same one) a couple of days later come in chasing a doe, but he was 4 or 5 minutes past last shooting light.  I could have filled two pickup trucks with squirrels while I was down there, the big fox and grey squirrels.  Saw at least 500 dead coons and possums on the road and probably 50 live ones standing next to the road.  You can sure tell fur prices are way down!  I'll post a few photos this evening.

Cool, I was born and raised in MO and still have a ton of family back there.  Where did you hunt at?  My brother has a lease up North near Chilicothe, MO and we had a great turkey hunt this spring.  He never took a deer during archery, but is back out for rifle now.  Its nice to be able to hunt both archery and rifle  :bash:

Good job on filling the freezer.  I want to make it back out there again for a hunt, but also want my bro to come out here.

They are coming tonight when I get home.  :)

I hunted for four days up near Hannibal Mo and 4 days south of Gainseville, dead center of the state, just north of the Arkansas border and a couple of days near Monett, SW of Springfield, MO.

Must be great to hunt an area where you actually see deer, even on bad days  :chuckle:

Looks like a good time.
