Rainier Hunting Retriever Club is sponsoring a Pheasant hunt at Cooke Canyon Game Bird Ranch. We've got a few spots open if you'd like to come out and give your dog a tune up on some birds or just come out and shoot some birds if you haven't gotten any yet this year. Lunch is provided around noon. You can bring any dog you want or hunt over one of ours. Your choice-someone with a really good pointer will probably really clean up after all the labs but, definately not after my Chessies. :chuckle:
Cost is $100 to $125 depending on final count of people who show up. The membership and guest fees are waived for our group.
We're going to shoot clays in-between groups and have both of the two fields to ourselves. We're a fun, easy going group. No need to worry about not knowing anyone.
We have about 5 openings. PM me tonight and I'll get back to you tomorrow if you are interested.

what time is the start? Is it in just one field..or all of the fields?
-
How many people are going total? And how many birds do you expect will be released?
-
First group will be out around 8:30. We have the two main fields right now. If alot more people show we will get all three. I don't know how Doug will set this up for multiple groups.
We have the place all day. Be hanging around, working dogs, watching dogs work, shooting clays, eating and telling lies.

How did it go? How many birds got away?

for me, 5 birds, 6 shots. It went great. Had a lot of fun. Shot clays for a long time which I had not done in a while. I think total in the field I hunted only two birds got away. One rooster a friend shot at(first bird up jitters) then a hen later with a very young inexperienced dog ranging too far.
The birds were nice sized and colorful. Hens were also decent size. two hens are frozen for dog training and four nice breasts went into the freezer last night.

Sounds like fun. Are you going to do this again this winter? Can you give more notice? :)

We're thinking about doing it again possibly for the last legal weekend, possibly March something? I'll keep you all up to date. We hung out at the clay pigeon throwers for a few hours shooting, drinking coffee, shooting and waiting for other groups to get done and rotate fields. Great time-
