Title: Nikon Coyote Riflescope

Reticle is good for fast acquisition on varmints, but not a good target reticle. But then, I didn't buy it or the rifle for target shooting. I'm especially fond of side-focus optics, which was one of the selling points for me. To be fair, I haven't killed a coyote with it yet, and I just put it away in favor of my 6.8 SPC AR. Cold weather=packs of critters=need for more firepower. :rolleyes:

I think this reticule is not for everyone . I personally do not care for them , but i have been called old school many many times :chuckle:

Post by: Special T on November 23, 2010, 07:25:54 AM: I used one on a buddies AR and all i can say is SWEET. If you don't have a range finder and need quick range estimation for quick shooting they are awesome.

I do load development and shoot those tiny sage rats way out there and I prefer the cross hairs for more precise placement. I can see that it may be useful for fast up-close coyote shots. It is just not my cup of tea. My rifles are multi-use rifles.

You would be supprised or not at how many coyotes are missed due to the shooter shooting at the coyote rather then the kill zone of said coyote . Yet another thing i did not like about the reticule on the coyote special .

I like to pick a spot or a hair. Depending on what scope i have on the gun. :chuckle: I was asked to rep at a few trade shows for nikon. I just could not do it. I don't use there stuff, and was not o.k. with selling stuff i did not use or trust. :twocents:

You gave up on an entire line of optics because of an instance in Idaho...? :o

I used my buddies at the range a few weeks back, wasn't too fond of the reticle, but the optics were clear, bright, what I'd expect for the price. Looks like the camo is one of, if not the only major selling point for the 'coyote'

Post by: AWS on November 25, 2010, 11:35:30 AM: I find the Coyote Special reticle to busy, lack precise aiming point and not enough FOV. I do like the one Nikon scope I have a Monarch 1.5x4.5x20. As far as predator calling scope my favorites in order Leupold VX-II 1x4x20, Sightron 1.5x6x40, Bushnell 4200 1.25x4x24 Ill. Dot, Nikon Monarch 1.5x4.5x20 and the Bushnell 4200 2x10x40 (open country). Most of my shots are under 200 yrds so my scopes never get off 1x or 1.5x unless I get a dog hung up.

This one was taken at 70yrds on 1x three days ago.
