I am planning to hunt elk in the late season and I am trying to decide where to go. I was originally thinking 520, but I searched for info on it and it sounds really crowded. I am going to bring my bike so I plan to mostly bike into gated roads. If I take the time to get off the roads will I be able to get away from people? Looking at the maps it looks like you can't hardly find a square mile that doesn't have roads. I am also looking at 506, 530 and 505, so I am just wondering what you guys would recomend? I am a very new hunter, but I'm determined and willing to put the time in. I know this is very spur of the moment, I was planning on going to the east side but now I am going to be going alone and the only car I have I don't want to take over the mountains. So considering I will be going to a place I have not been able to scout, where would you recomend?
Thanks a lot I really apreciate any input.

If I had to choose between those units you listed I'd go to Willapa Hills.

OK thanks. Looking at the harvest reports I am guessing there are a lot of elk in there because it is a 3pt min in the early season, and a huge number were taken even in comparison to units open for bull and antlerless harvest.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

I was in in 505 on the late season opener. I saw two elk at about 80 yards. Too far for the bow. I would mention it is also open for muzzy right now. I saw or bumped into about 7 other hunters while I was in there. Kinda crowded if you ask me. I hunted an area not far from the road but had never bumped into anyone else in this area before. Guess word got out lol. I would hunt 520 which is just bow season right now :twocents:
