i was out hunting in the wishkah looking for elk...found tons and tons of sign but no fur...well i decided to drive around a bit since i wasnt familar with the area at all and i come around a corner to see a truck driving down the road with a guy standing up in the back...wtf :dunno: ...i was thinking some people i tell ya...well i came around the clear cut and drove past the truck and to my suprise one guy was loading the back with wood and the guy in the back of the truck was standing there with a CROSSBOW cocked and loaded :bash: :bdid:...i didnt see any handicap signs in the window and the guy sure didnt look handicapped to me...let alone them driving around with a loaded weapon in the truck....wish people would just follow the rules and stop making the real hunters look like a bunch of idiots to the greenies
-
Is a crossbow even legal if they were handicapped? Did you call it in and give a vehicle description?
-
Crossbows are considered modern firearm right?
-
a crossbow is legal if they can not physically pull a sting back on a bow and has to be verified by a dr....i had no cell reception and by the time i got to a spot and turned around to get a license plate # they were gone...im not sure if they have to have the handicapped deal in their window or not but every handicapped hunter i know has a big orange sign to put in their window
-
im not sure if you can use them during modern or not...but its archery only in this unit i do believe right now
-
Was he forcing the other guy to load his wood for him at arrowpoint? This guy might have just been having some trouble getting his friends motivated to help him.
-
since none of know the guys, why don't we give a felllow hunter the benefit of the doubt?
:dunno:
-
Sounds like there might be some new rule and you can hunt from the back of a pickup.....??? Saw the same thing in the Teanaway unit sat. some jacklick had three guys in the back of his truck and they drove into a field to chase a herd of elk. This lasted about 5-10 min. of back ond forth round and round I along with several others were in amazement. The guys comment was I manage this land so I can do what I want.
-
Sounds like illegal activity to me.

which part? i've seen people in the back of their trucks drive right past GWs?
-
I had a friend of a friend standing in the back of a truck drawn on a deer. He said Doe, driver heard go and hit the gas. The guy went over the tailgate and broke his collarbone and sent an arrow god knows where.
-
I saw that guy. Crazy

well i would if he wasnt standing in the back of the truck with his buddy driving and with a loaded crossbow looking around for animals
-
Crossbows are legal in firearm restriced areas during the modern season.
-
Handicap hunters can shoot from the vehicle. Some handicap hunters can use a crossbow. IF this guy was a true handicap hunter that is allowed to use a crossbow then he was 100% legal. I'm not sure about the card in the windo but I think it is required.
Handicap hunters can also give their buddy a card that gives their privleges to them while in the field. So I can shoot an elk for my handicap buddy with his crossbow while he sits in the truck and sleeps. :IBCOOL:
It works the same when digging clams or fishing. I do it all for them as long as I have the card in my pocket.

i understand if he was handicapped then he was legal but he just didnt look to handicapped to me and they didnt stick around long enough for me to ask...and even if he was handicapped then he shouldnt have been riding around in the back of the truck standing up and hanging onto the cab with his crossbow loaded...what if he fell back and accidently shot the crossbow through the window into the back of the head of his buddy..then what..someone gonna still say its ok to do it cause hes handicapped?

And you admit this on open forum ?
That is not only illegal, but just plain ... :bash:
-
I didn't say I did it. I said friend of a friend, I wasn't there just heard the story.

It isn't to hard to get the handicapped hunting permit. I know a few guys that have them I do know that there is extra paperwork to get the crossbow permit.
-
Saw the same thing in the Mossyrock Unit Last Saturday.
-
not hard to get at all. 1 piece of paper signed by a doctor and you can use a crossbow. My dad has one, first year this year, he messed his shoulder up a couple years ago and can no longer draw his bow. He dont look handicapped :chuckle:
-
My neighbor runs marathons, and has a handicap parking permit for her SUV.
-
Can you guys use Crossbows in archery season if you are handicap? In Montana, we laid the shmacker down on that Bull Pucky... It is a "bow season"... If you are going to allow crossbows, you may as well allow 300 Ultra mags...
We demonstrated to the legislature and the handicapped hunters how they can get a modified BOW that any of them can shoot, if they can shoot as crossbow, they can shoot this modified bow...
Crossbows are not bows...they are arrow guns...
As for the "Doe/Go" story...ROTFLMFAO!!!!!

Then you should report her. Thats *censored*!! There are people that really need those spaces. I feel like it's your duty to report her.

All I really have to say is that I hope you people who have such a hard time with handicapped hunters never have to live with a handicap. Do you think that guy got his elk? Probably not. Do you think he likes to be handicapped? Probably not. Why don't you cut the guy a little slack and give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he served his country for YOU and got his arms blown off and he's holding that terrible crossbow with fake hands. I have no patience for people who complain that handicapped people have it easy and even less patience for people who cheat the system. Karmas a real bitch and it will come around to bite you. :twocents:

WOW DEARHUNTER AGAIN WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO SAY HE DOESNT LOOK HANDICAP..

Seeing as they were loading firewood, it doesn't sound like they were hunting . . .
Also, anyone remember the story of this junkie with a crossbow down in Pe Ell?
http://www.theolympian.com/2009/11/21/1044455/pe-ell-suspect-in-crossbow-shooting.html (http://www.theolympian.com/2009/11/21/1044455/pe-ell-suspect-in-crossbow-shooting.html)
Sounds like there might have been some illegal activity going on to me too. . . Not necessarily hunting or hunting violations going on though. Maybe junkies stealing firewood from somewhere they shouldn't be? That's what it sounds like to me, especially since they were long gone by the time deerhunter_98520 turned around and got back there.

first of all i dont have a problem with handicapped hunters using crossbows if there really handicapped...my dad is missing half his hand and is applying for the permit next year to hunt elk with me ...the problem i have this this jacknut is standing in the back of the truck with a cocked and loaded crossbow while his buddy was driving...sounds a little dangerous to me...thats my biggest beef....so before you start gettin on my ass read my comments first
-
My comments were directed more towards "he doesn't look handicapped" and Hornseeker post. Every year someone rants about handicapped people having some sort of advantage with crossbows and it sets me off. I get what your saying about being in the back of the truck and agree somewhat
-
AGAIN WHAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO SAY HE DOESNT LOK HANDICAP.I HAVE NO TIME FOR JACK _SS PEOPLE LIKE YOU DEARHUNTER
GO POUND SAND AND LEAVE US HANDICAPERS ALONE......
-
my opinion gives me the right to say he didnt look handicapped...from my perception what i seen he didnt look like it...im not sayin i was right or wrong...just what it looked like to me..just my opionon... i have no problem with handicapped hunters...i have good friends that are handicapped and i hunt with them and help them..if the guy was handicapped then more power to him to use the crossbow i dont have a problem with it...just the way the guy was acting looked a little suspisious to me...not to mention again he was standing in the back of the truck with a loaded crossbow..thats my biggest beef...if you dont like my comments dont read them
