I have an english pointer who has been hunting very well as far has pointing is concerned, but when it comes to the retrieve he goes to the bird and then picks it up and drops it. When he has it in his mouth I call him but he is more interested in finding another bird. I do not want to punish him because he is into other birds and holding point...What are your thoughts?

I used Evan Graham's Smart Fetch for my first time at force breaking. An easy process that is easy on the dog and it took about a month. She has got a lot of perfect scores in hunt test and always retrieves to hand while hunting so it has worked for me. Good luck.

Thank you I will look into that!

Email Evan and ask him about his program. They aren't too expensive and a three CD set will really get you started in the right direction.
Tell him Happy Gilmore sent you over- he'll get a laugh-

I did mine myself, took a throwing bumper, small one put a wing on it toss it for the dog. as soon as he picks it say HOLD when he drops it and runs off go stand next to the bumper call him back at a sit and heel position. open his mouth insert bumper, put your thumb in his ear and role the ear forward (TWISTING) saying HOLD every time he is trying to drop it, with the other hand tap the bottom of his jaw everytime you notice he is loosening say hold. spend about 30sec to a minute doing this. pretty soon he won't want to put it down. remember lots of praise take the wing off throw the bumper and let him have some fun, keep the training short and happy (AND REMEMBER THE HAND IS FOR LOVE NOT BEATING) Hit me up if you need some help, a trainer showed me how to do it. It's hard when you love your pet but it's worth it.
