Just got word that my little cousin killed his first elk. Come to find out its not just any elk its a 330 class bull. All I know is he was hunt the skookumchuck unit and the shot was 35 yards. I do not have pics yet and currently working in portland, but I will post some as soon as I get to my buddy's shop (Summit Creek Taxidermy). This gets me exited and jealous at the same time.   :archery_smiley:

-
-There are no 7pts in the chuck! ;)
-
C'mon, who has the pic. . . "THIS THREAD IS USLESS WITHOUT PICS"
-
I am still in portland till friday I will post pics before the end of the weekend. I have only seen text pics so far but its worth the wait I promiss. And by the way I Have seen a couple big 6x and a big 6x7 in that gmu. I have not killed one there, mostly because when I see them its before season and there still in velvet. The area is very difficult to hunt (steep, Thick, and did I say steep).
-
This is to wet your apatite and keep this thread alive until the real elk shows up........Here is a Skookumchuck bull from this summer. He's got nice length on his 1's, 2's and 3's. I wonder what he looks like now.
-
This bull is dead by a local , shot late Muzzy on private ground.
-
Bucklucky, Do you know approximately where? This guy was one of the bulls in my local heard but it moved out in early Sept. and I was wondering where it went.
-
I dont know where he went, but minus the velvet...thats about what he looks like now (less lively though if Charlie is right)...
-
I will add more when I see this thing in person this weekend.
-

This bull was shot no where near Bald hills Your bull may still be there.
-
nope it was not. if you really must know where i killed him ill tell you. it was in washington :chuckle:
-
That is absolutely rediculous... :o Congrats on an amazing bull!
Ironically an elk cape can be worth $ if you can save it...speaking in reference to your comment about not having money to mount it. I bet that bull had a really pretty cape, he's got that old bull "hump" on his snout. Do you have any field pics you can share?
East of I-5?
-
I'm getting a cape for free and he is only bout 5 judging by his teeth. didn't think id work out a deal that's why i didn't save the cape but it pays to have a cousin with friends haha and no sadly i didnt get any feild pics of him didnt have a phone or camra

I was out there on the first of the month. Lots of elk are running around, just could not find a bull with 3 points or better. I bumped a couple of cows and a single spike. I'm glad to see someone is having good luck out there! Tomorrow I'll be poking my nose in the Lincon unit just trying to fill my deer tag!
Happy hunting all!
-
nicest bull ive seen taken in the skookumchuck. congrats!
-
Dandy bull
-
Nice bull, but if that's 330 then I shot a 400 this year :chuckle:. Not trying to take anything away from your bull it's nice but probably not close at all to 330. I would guess around 250 to 260. Congrats
-
I have only seen the same pic as you but 250-260. Where do you come up with that! Obviously you dont know how to score an elk. It may not score 330 but it will be a heck of a lot closer to 330 than 250. Lets see your "400" bull.
-
I have to agree with Romulus somewhat...I would say at least 300 before deductions. I've killed a handful of mature Olympic Roosies that were at peak potential for our area and they were all at least 280 (and smaller than this one). One of the biggest limiting factors for true rosies when it comes to scoring is tine length equally distributed across all tines, which does not seem to be the case for this bull (I'm guessing those eyeguards and thirds are at least 14 - 18"). Four more inches of tine length across 6 different tines obviously can move your total score 24"...thats pretty substantial.
-
Glad to see the pic's! Nice bull. He should measure 280-300ish. A true monster rosie! Long 3rds.

Well we finally got a green score and 330 is a little big the bull scored 312 and some change. If it carried its tine length past its royals it would have been bigger.
-
Right on, I just got done telling my buddie I thought it was a 310 bull today.
-
my bull might be big but i stopped to look at a bull in a loggers truck on the way home from work today. he said it scored 370 and 5/8 made mine look small his 3rds were 31 inchs long. but the logger would not let me take a pic of it or it would be on here. i think he might of got it out of the white river dra cuz i see him headin up that way every day for work but not sure cuz his buddy said he got it off of grass mountin where ever thats at???? :dunno:
-
In the past I've been pretty good about scoring elk, I guess I was off a little on this one. If your score is 312 than congrats, I was only giving my opinoin not trying to put you or your elk down in anyway shape or form. I shot a 311 this year and it just looks a lot bigger to me that's all. Those thirds do kick ass.
-
Damm fine bull buddy no matter what it scored

My thirds are small but the seconds are 18 and 17 3/4, not trying to turn this into a contest just posting an example of a 311.

Heck of a darn good bull!! Any Rosie over 300 is a toad!
