Title: Tennessee Whitetail Buck
Post by: canyelk48 on December 03, 2010, 02:10:08 PM
Finally found a buck worth shooting on my farm, a pretty decent 10 point.  We did a 5 minute stare down at 100 yards until he finally turned his head so I could see the rest of his rack.  Evidently my Leupold scope on my .270 is messed up because I didn't hit him where I aimed (and I had sighted this rifle in just prior to the rifle season); nothing loose, so wondering if it's internal problems since I aimed just behind his shoulder and ended up grazing his head which knocked him down long enough for me to walk up and finish him off.  Anyhow, he's at the meat processor now and should taste pretty darned good!

Nice.  My wife's family is from Tennessee.  If I don't find a "retirement" job soon here in Washington (retiring from the military) I may be posting pictues like this instead of elk and mule deer...

Tennessee is nice and peaceful - we live 1 1/2 hours drive from Nashville or Memphis; mild Winters, no traffic (at least where my farm is), very low property taxes (just under $1K for a 3 BR, 2.5 BA home on 110.7 acres) and the cost of living is pretty low.  Trouble is, my kids and granddaughter live in WA, so I'm trying to sell my house/property and move back.  Anyone out there looking to relocate to Tennessee, lol?  My place is loaded with deer, red fox, bobcat, turkey and coyotes.  PM me if you'd like more info on my place.

Thanks for the compliments.  G2's measured 9 1/2" and 10 7/8".

Nice buck!
I spent my first 9 years in Columbia Tenn.  We didn't have bucks of that caliber back 40 years ago, we also didn't have coyotes.

WHat part of Tennessee?

We're 12 miles SE of Lexington, TN, which is considered midwestern Tennessee.  Jackson, TN is the nearest mid-size city and is a 45 minute drive from our house.  I've been watching two 8 points on my game camera, which are around 2 1/2 years old, so if they survive this season they should be like the buck I killed and may be from his genetics.
Here's a link for our property (price negotiable!):  http://www.trulia.com/property/1081799031-1665-Harrington-Rd-Scotts-Hill-TN-38374 (http://www.trulia.com/property/1081799031-1665-Harrington-Rd-Scotts-Hill-TN-38374)
