Title: .224 50 gr. varmint grenades
Post by: Jack Diamond on December 07, 2010, 09:31:54 PM
Probably something allready beat to death here, but unable to locate any posts concerning the VG"s on this site. My Savage 25LWV loves them in handloads, and 2 dogs taken with them never saw it coming, and little fur damage, but our friends in the Peoples Republic of California, in the Condor lead free areas do not share the same results. Anyone else out there with factual results?
My 788 still likes the 52 gr Sierra H.P." =slower twist-shorter bullet.

I've used the 36? grainers with mixed results out of my swift. Some don't exit and some do and are very very messy. On the really far shots though, 280-330 yards they really perform nicely. The BC is so bad though that I've gotten away from them. I stick with Hollow point match bullets (52 grain) in the swift and 60 grn sierra Varminters in my AR.  :twocents:

The 50's out of my 22-250 tore the hell of nearly coyote I used them on.  Hit a bone, ruin a pelt.  Good destruction bullet though if you're not into saving the pelts. :twocents:

Sounds more like a PD bullet rather then a coyote bullet. :twocents:

Well ,the reason I have for asking is so far I have had fair results , but in my experience when California takes a crap ,Washington circles around it about 3 or 4 years then rolls in it , and then announces that they are going to ban whatever California crapped on. Even Nosler and the other major bullet manufacturers are coming out with lead free bullets, I fear that with the lead free shot idea and the lead free sinkers they want to shove down our throats, it will happen within 10 years. I will probably have enough stockpiled until I die, however another generation will not, so hopefully we as hunters can pass on factual knowledge, rather than ignoring the obvious.
And thanks to Gutpile and MtnMuley for factual answers, not knee jerk reactions!

i use either a 40gr nosler bt or my 52 grain berger hp, both seem to be great the noslers hardly ever go through a coyote unless its a bad angle, never had a bullet go through a broadside shot tho, never have had any experience with the varmint grenades tho,
