Title: outcome of the meat
Post by: MountainWalk on April 14, 2008, 09:58:05 PM
i normally cut all mine up myself, and do my own trimming. but having no grinder, i dont get any hamburg. i do lots of chunks for frying. before i killed my first elk, i swore that if i ever killed one, i would donate some to a mens shelter that let me clean up clothes, shower up and eat and relay phone calls for me to get a job.  i finally did and it was awesome taking a hind to them, ready to go.

We do it all. (I was going to go on and on about how special the game is, and how I wouldn't trust it to a butcher, but that would be rude.)

almost all of our hunters choose at our suggestion to send their meat to hamilton pack, in hamilton , mt. they do an OUTSTANDING job on keeping your deer meat with your deer meat. and they do a fine vacuum job too. we rely on them  and we send em business. but yeah , there are a lot of lousy butchers out there.

We butcher our own meat but one of my co-workers dad makes custom sausage so we take scraps to him to make our sausage.

I butcher and process my own.  Last couple of years though if I take a buck like in Idaho, I drop it off for charity as I have enough meat ussually.

Where can you do that? Is that part of the Sportsmen for Hunger program?

Usually do my own, my buddy has a grinder so that makes it nice. Every once in  awhile I'll take some down to the butcher get some pepper sticks made though.

Worked at a deer processor for 3 seasons.  I process my own game.  Only thing I don't do is make sausage.  I would like to learn differnet ways to do that.  Other than that I do everything.  Vaccuum packing is the way to go.  Absolutly love it.  Keeps the meat good longer.
