ok, seasons over. bought a bow, because i had a multi season tag. the good news is i filled it, and with the bow. the better news is, that i'm putting down my rifle for awhile, and going all bow next year.
question is, how do i store this bow best if i dont intend to use it again till august, break it down? loosen up the limbs? or just leave it as is.

Loosen up the limbs, thats the way i have been storing my bow... Some string wax is good for it also, make sure there is no corrosion started anywhere... Store in a cool dry place... :twocents:

Just put it away...BUT Please get it OUT Before AUGUST like maybe July...

might not want to admit not using it until august. it wont take ling until the ethics police get on here and harass you about needing to practice all year. :bash: but honestly i have no idea but i do want hear some answers, as i would like to get into archery soon.

Really you dont need to back the limbs out, but yes do wax the strings and keep it dry.

There is an offseason???? Dang... hunting runs right into indoor season, and 3D starts very soon... Redding... then field events and outdoor shoots... then hunting season starts again... WHat off season? Seriously if you enjoy hunting with your bow, come on out to some of the local club shoots.. you will be addicted!

i didnt know the season ended either. i hunted this morning and went and sighted the 3-d bow in this afternoon. hunting closes the 31st and 3-d begings the 1st :rockin:

thanks guys appreciate it. just want to cut down on the wear and tear and keep it new as long as possible. i had a bow 20 years ago, shot it like every 15 minutes. for a year. and went hunting. failed to recover a cow, on what looked like a good hit, only 20 yards, but no recovery, assume shoulder shot, lack of penetration. anyways felt horrible about it and put the bow away until this last august when i bought a new one. first three arrows all hit eachother. just like shooting a gun for me. maybe its just me, but i can pick up a bow and if the sites are right, i'll hit my mark. amazed at the improvements of the equipment today as compared to 20 years ago. but arrows cost money. and bows have too many moving parts. so i guess i can expect a citation in the mail soon from the elite police, lol. jus jking.

Take off the limbs and lube the pockets, waxed the string and cables, then store it away in your safe. ;)

That statment will get most bowhunters in trouble... here I come the "ethics" police. Now since you are a "natural" I guess you can pick it up and just go kill something... I know..I know he said he'd start again in August. However, not saying he is one of them... but the trend is to go out and buy a bow,,, and go hunting the next day or two... Yep, throw a few arrows downrange... get it sighted in good enough to hit a paper plate at 20 yards and "lets go".... Once again sorry to put it in this thread, but maybe we should make Bowhunter Ed mandatory.

Keep shooting the bow all year. There are some 3d shoots coming up starting in January. You might be proficient now but you'll be REALLY good next season if you keep shooting all year.
I'm a pretty good shot and I missed this year (cleanly, fortunately) not because I blew the shot but because I didn't have time to use my rangefinder and I didn't guess the distance correctly. The arrow went EXACTLY where I pointed the bow. I just pointed it in the wrong place. So, if you think you can't miss just keep practicing guessing ranges and shooting. I guarantee you'll break some arrows. After this year's miss I plan on breaking a bunch of arrows this off season until I quit breaking them.

figured my statement would be taken the wrong way when i read it, but being a fisherman, i decided to troll abit for a bite. lol, didn't mean to sound so arrogant, i would rate myself i guess as an "OK" i figure i don't have to be insanely accurate as i believe in limitations. for me its 30 yards deer 40 yards elk. to use rifle language my groups average a hair over moa, out to 50 yards. for me, and its just me, at least right now, my bow is a tool. but with out range estimation and rangefinding its useless. i won't shoot farther as time of flight is simply too long. i do need to practice some angle shooting, and kneel as well as sitting shooting, as i found out to my surprise that my pattern moves when doing so. i am aware of my limitations and recognize that i am throwing a razor blade at an animal and that actually scares me abit. maybe when money isnt so tight, i can get a cheap bow to practice with and keep this one mint. appreciate the traffice stop nw, as it was a justified stop. i hope this explanation will result in a warning this time.

Hey. Don't get me wrong - I was just pointing out a lesson I learns from my own failure this year. Definitely not making any sort of ethical judgement regarding any decision that you decide to make.

Just keep practicing with your bow whenever you can. Don't worry about wearing, as long as you don't dry fire it. Arrow will cost a bit, but it's better to prepare than not. Just don't shoot group and you'll be find. I shoot one arrow at a time. So I hardly destroy any arrow. But if you want to store your bow away, like others said, just wax the string and put it away. :twocents:
