Jerry

Thanks for the complements. It will be a great time. I have lots of info and knowledge in this sport and it is always great to share that info that is sooo hard to get by yourself as a newbie. You know what I'm talking about.
This is my busy time of year with doing these seminars in the NorthWest so I don't kill as many dogs as I like but March through October is my time to slay'em! Although this year has been good to me!
Have a Merry Christmas!

L8NITE

You Wetsiders Stay tuned here for seminar postings. I am in talks with a few places over there and are trying to pin down some dates. Kind of hard in January with new year's, superbowl, and other things that keep guys home.

As soon as I know more I will post it here. Looking at Lacey or Federal Way, and a few others.

Stay tuned..................

The seminar should run about two hours or longer depending on attendance and questions from the crowd. Looks to be a lot of interest so I would recommend coming a bit early for good seats. Heck come early and BS a bit! I plan on being on the floor in the middle of the store but don't know for sure. I prefer the floor but the back is ok too. I will see when I set up.

I look forward to meeting everybody.

See ya there!

All of us Hunt-WA people should like wear a name tag or something. Maybe, some other kind of identifying system so that we can all recognize each other. I'll wear a tag or something that says Hunt-WA CoryTDF. Anybody else have an idea?
Title: Re: Coyote & Predator Seminar- Kennewick
Post by: WiseOldYote on January 02, 2011, 10:57:03 AM
Good Idea Cory!

I will get some name tags and have them there.

Maybe a Hunt WA after seminar get together?

 What say you guys?

Yote,

I say cool 8) I may be heading north after the seminar to do a little dog hunting but if that falls through I would love to go grab a beer or something with some members. I'll be looking for the name tags. Will you have them at the main table? I think we should write it like this.

Hunt-WA Member:
CORYTDF

Just an idea!

Yote,

let me know what you need me to do. I'll be pulling in right at 2 as I will have to get off work a little early. The Tri Cities is not my home turf so as far as where to go i'll let that be a decision that we make as a group. I'm looking forward to meeting up with everybody. If anybody has any suggestions just post them here and or let me know when you see Yote or myself at the seminar.

I will bring my voice recorder. It might not be the best recording. It picks up background noise real well.

FYI I just got home from there and the manager said that last year they had about 50-55 people attend and it's the biggest seminar they have hunting wise, I also talked to him about running a sale on 223 rounds and hopefully other predator related items. Would be a wise move there will be some people jacked about getting new tools and going out after something to kill  :mgun2: See you guys there!

Geez...Sounds like I should have taken a ride down--instead of napping in the sun like an old coyote.

I had a good time at the event.  Thanks to Bryan and Warehouse Sports.  I heard that there was a peak attendance of 62 people at the event.  I was hoping for about 12 or so (you guys).  :chuckle:

I enjoyed meeting you chaps.  Those that I recall include Sidewinder (in passing, as he was working at the store that day), demontang, our speaker "WiseOldYote", gramps, corytdf, and carpsniperg2.  I am sure I missed naming some that introduced themselves to me (apologies) and there were others I didn't meet.

Here are a few pics from the event.

The thing to notice in one of the pictures is the EXCELLENT snow camo job done on an AR.  It is laying on a snow-camo garment and can barely be seen.  That's the way to do it!

Brian shared some tips with me for using the KanatiTek caller.  It has a capability to randomly change the volume so as to suggest a more realistic situation.  I'd been trying to do that by 'thumb', and that was more motion than necessary. Clever.

Brian does have some wonderful toys, as others have noted.

Boy, now I'm really sorry I didn't go.  I think I was in that store a few years ago.  Did it have a different name then?

I have to say thanks for all who came out for the seminar! With the SeaChickens playing I thought we would have had a lower turnout.

I hope some of you left with useful information to better yourself in the field. That was a long day, up @ 3, load gear, go hunt a few stands on the way down, set up, and do the seminar. Home @ midnight!

Those lights are from here-http://www.magnalight.com/pc-1908-2-15-million-candlepower-handheld-spotlight--35-watt-hid--3200-lumens--spot-flood-combo--5-lens.aspx (http://www.magnalight.com/pc-1908-2-15-million-candlepower-handheld-spotlight--35-watt-hid--3200-lumens--spot-flood-combo--5-lens.aspx)

I think we should have an Eastern WA Predator Hunters Assn!

What do you all think?

Thanks again for the support.

Brian

I thought so!  I saw a while back that Sportsmans Warehouse chain was bought by a Canadian company.  The west coast stores fared better than the midwest stores.  They all got closed down, I heard.

I had taped the Seahawk game and was just leaving the store to watch it, when one of the clerks announced the Seahawk victory.  Doh!

A pleasant enough surprise, though.  Go Hawks!

I think that is a great idea! I was thinking about joining the wwpha but didn't really want to in case someone started an eastern one.

I hope you guys stocked up on calls.  I remember going to Wholesale Sports in Spokane a few days after Brian gave a seminar.  I needed to replace a Psyco Tweety I had lost.  All calls were picked clean and they weren't getting anything in for another couple of weeks.   :bash:

These seminars are great.  Any tidbits that you can pick up and try to apply to your hunting will hopefully shorten the learning curve for new callers, and remind the experienced guys of some of the fundamentals that they may have quit doing, either from complacency or over-thinking.

Thanks Brian, sounds like you did a great job.

I might suggest affiliation under the NorthWest Predator Hunting Association at http://nwpha.com/ (http://nwpha.com/).  I'll admit to not being very active there, but I'd hate to dilute ourselves into too many different and non-communicating groups.

Great job Brian , sounds like you put on a great seminar , I wish i could have attended and learned a thing or two .
I am always interested in the means other callers use to get the job done and i always learn sompthing diffrent when calling with someone else .
That is one facinating thing about calling , no matter how much you do it , its always a learning process.

I think a support group for the addicted would be a better fit then a EWPHA.

I think a support group for the addicted  :lol4:

That's funny Jerry,
My wife was just telling me the other day, that I needed a support group for my coyote hunting. Or at least someone else to support my habit of spending money going coyote hunting....  :chuckle:

No new just revive! there has been alot of talk about that round being enough to bring big game down but shot placement is so important! I would say 06 is a good place to start, take her out and shoot a couple different things and see what she likes. I have a 06 and 300 short and 338 she can sit behind and let fly  ;)

If it is 'her' first center fire rifle, I'd stick with your first choice, the .243.  It is plenty potent enough for dear deer, and will give her a more pleasant shooting experience.  That is where it pays off, in the long run. It is a great cartridge for coyotes, for which I have a bias...  (I figure my next gun may well be a .243.)
