Title: Anybody know what kind of spider this is?
Post by: jasfireman on December 23, 2010, 12:17:42 PM: Found this guy while elk hunting in the Toutle, not sure what kind he/she is but doesn't look to friendly.

Post by: let.it.fly on December 23, 2010, 12:22:42 PM: he's a bad mama jama, should be a lady. female spiders are always bigger and more elaborate colors then males. some kind of orb spider. yellow and black garden/orb spider i believe. lemme find out.

Post by: Heredoggydoggy on December 23, 2010, 01:17:49 PM: Yep, Common Garden Spider. In spite of their size they are pretty mild-mannered critters. Years ago, while swimming, I walked right into a 7 foot round web that was stretched between two bushes with the big fella in the middle of the web about chest high. Didn't have my glasses on and never saw him until I felt him bounce off my bare chest and the web all over me. Don't know where he went, but I was backtracking real fast with cold sweat running off and the hair on my neck sticking out. He must have figured there was no sense in biting something that was too big to eat, because I didn't get bit, even though I destroyed his home.

Black and Yellow Garden Spiders are harmless to humans. Because they are large, many people fear them; however, not only are they harmless, but they do a lot of good. These spiders eat large amounts of insect pests, such as flies, mosquitoes, and aphids.

I love when I'm spraying and find a Black Widow at a customers house. I always keep the widows I find for educting kids so they know what to look for. Anyways, watching a grown man squirm when I find one and stick it in their face is priceless. "See the hourglass??" :chuckle: That my friend, is what you call job security. :chuckle:

I guess I did squish one of those desert Iraqi spiders, or at least a relative to one. I was trying to figure out how I had a camel spider in the Wenas. Might have came in on the neighbors gear when he came back or something. The thing was as big as a Tarantula but moved faster than Hobo. Took me about 20 feet on a dead run to get a boot on him. I wnated to capture him for a photo shoot but when he took off, so did my kill instincs.
