Great season for your clan! A lot of elk meat! Any unfilled tags?
-
all very nice bulls! that first one is a real hog, is it a legitament roosie? if so thats one of the nicest roosies ive seen taken down in the sw corner.

Ya we went 5 for 7 archery. Don't have pics of the other ones right now. But ya that big one is 100% roosie. Got him opening day. I had a 60 yard shot on him and another one the same size but didn't feel comfortable taking the shots.

good for you for holding off on a shot that wasn't right- but is your hunt story posted elsewhere? I'd like more details. ;)

Heck of a season, and lots in the freezer. Great looking bulls especially that first one.

opening day found me and my brother in law chasing a bull i had scouted for a month before the season opened. he was a big 6 on one side with 5 on the other and a crown coming off is top making him a 6x6. we got on him first thing and chased him around the whole country, we'd get to about 70 and he would push his cows away from us. we stayed on him til about noon and finally backed out. went to a new area and about a half mile in we heard some cows chirping and saw a bull down in a creek tearing up an alder. he walked out in front of us at about 80 and we saw it was a chumba. we let him go up the draw and i went around one side and my brother in law went around the other way for the ambush. i got on him at 60 but didnt shoot and he walked over a little hill into a meadow. i sneak over the top and nothing, seems that my brother in law knew what was gonna happen and i pushed them right to him in that meadow and he hammered him at 45.
the next week i spent chasing the crowned 6, on him every day. finally on the last saturday of the season things were looking good. he was in a new clearcut with a buffer on the lower side full of salmon berries and alders. brother in law stayed about 200 yards from the herd calling and wailing on sticks to keep him destracted while i snuck up the creek bottom to try and get a shot. an hour and a half later im getting close and jump a satellite bull in the timber, a little 4pt that stood 10 yards from me broadside so i let him walk. i get to about 70 yards from the big bull and his cows walk right to me at 20 yards, him still in the clearcut screwing with the satellite bull. i wait for him to follow his cows but he knows somethings up and stays a little too high on the hill. had him at 60 yards a few times but opted out of the shot. one of his cows almost steps on me and busts out of the country, he follows. pretty disapointed at this point so i see the satellite bull standing there looking at me at 40 yards. i had to put the hammer down at this point and double lunged him, he ran about 30 yards and fell over. the big bull hears this and comes rippin back out of the crap coming to fight! ha i couldnt believe it, i had to just look at him. it was a good season, not complaining at all but man i wish i coulda got a shot on him. a rifle hunter ended up taking him in the last weekend of the season.

Congrats,
Love to see theres others out there that would rather they walk then shoot and pray... Seems to be a thing of the past...
What the hell is a chumba? Im not a rook by any strech, and have yet to hear of a chumba when referencing an elk..

Brandon,
Looks like you guys did well on that side of the hill. Chase some of those big ones to us. They don't grow that big up here.
