I posted the car realated ones on a traditional car forum you should of herd the uproar, didn't take long for the moderators to yank it. I have looked them over and over and still find something I missed the first time. Always wished I grew up in the early-mid 1800's, those mountain men had a hard life but looked very rewarding and the great thing was there was no world news!

I've seen the same email thread of photos for years. None of them are Washington critters/hunters that I know of. Some of the captions I've seen years back are Montana, Ca, and Idaho.

I have some old black and white photos to go through this winter. I'll see if I can post some from Washington...

Those are the reasons we hunt , just looking at those photos made me want to be there with them, sharing the moment, enjoying friends and family, and just looking forward to carrying on the tradition, truly classic.

The caption on the wolf says it all... "killed thousands of dollars worth of livestock"

That's a ton of money back then... and the wolf had plenty of wild game but chose livestock...
hmmmm think we should learn from the past?

anybody know....was there some significance to putting the dead stuff on the cars?
Seems like all or most all of the antique photos you see the animals are hanging on the cars.

I asked my dad that one time when I saw some photos like these. Two reasons... All they had was the one family car and no trucks back then.. Few had a truck anyway.  So it was easiest to keep the critters/blood out of the interior by strapping them to the hood/fenders. Besides, they had to have somewhere to sit. Up until the 50's, cars were not all that roomy. My dad was born in 31 and didn't get his first truck until 62. Unless you lived on a hobbie farm, or at least rural, people didn't have trucks. 'Trunks' of cars were left for mama's luggage.

The other reason:   One that's frowned upon today. Hunters would show off their bounty when they drove back home/through town.

same as all the pictures taken now day's in the bed of your truck. they just didn't have truck beds back then.

Great photos. I love the caption on the wolf as well. $180 dollar reward would have been a heck of a lot of money back then.

Looking at these makes me wonder. Is it my heritage to be able to shoot wolves and multiple deer? I may have to contact the ACLU to see if I can get my Caucasian rights restored.  :chuckle: But first I have to finish up my reparations lawsuit for my Irish ancestors being slaves.  :sry:   :stirthepot:

Man, I am in an ornery mood today. Great photos guys keep 'em coming.
