Im currently deployed on the Abraham Lincoln. I did a websearch and found this forum. Really glad I did as there is alot of helpful info. Im looking at hunting the lewis river unit for early archery elk. Im not looking for GPS coordinates. I have a general idea of where I want to hunt for next year(spencer butte/blue lake). Just need some opinions on it. Any PM's would be appreciated. Im going to try as much as possible to scout. May only be able to get out a couple of times do to ships schedule. By the way, Ive been hunting for elk for about 25 years. Do to being in the Navy I havent gone every year, but have never connected with a branch antler bull. Putting in for draw tags is an option. But I probably wont get drawn for another couple years. Only have 3 points... Thanks ahead of time for any help...

Those are in GMU 560: Lewis River. The first thing you may want to do is decide on a hunting method: modern firearm, muzzleloader, or archery. You must specify one of the three.
Check out the 2010 regulations; they will give you a good idea of the seasons for the three methods. 2011 should be similar.
Once you have some dates and a hunting method, you can start planning around that.

I will be hunting early archery. I usually hunt the east side, but want somewhere on the west side. I have never been down south and was looking at the stats on WDFW. It has a higher percentage of success rate. Dont have alot of resources out here just the web. Thanks in advance.
