Going to nail some traps to the tree along with strategic placement of a small live trap this evening:chuckle: Well over fifty pics of the *censored*s starting from 5:15 at night through about 6 am. Of course tons of birds and squirrels during the day. Nasty suckers. I guess it comes with having bird feeders.

Good pellet rifle and a light work well for these varmints. Plus it helps you for the yote hunts.

I know I know... This is the biggest breakthrough in hunting since the release of the butt out tool in 2006, but let me reassure everyone, this isn't just staying here in the states, I'm hitting worldwide with this. I shouldn't be saying this right now, but things are in the works making plans for Jim Shockey to come down and film a hunt off one of my bait stations. He's looking for the new SCI record rat, and I've made some promises I hope I can keep. Be patient everyone. As far as the cookbook, Ive offered the opportunity for my wife to get in on this. So far shes skeptical, but I think she could get a book deal. She makes a mean pot roast and with a little "rodent" inspiration, I think she could make your ordinary pot roast into a mouth watering masterpiece. Ive emailed Oprah and Martha Stewart but haven't heard back yet.

Ok, night one was fulfilled with action like I expected. BUT, trap placement and design may be an issue for capturing a kill shot. Here are a couple stills from the vid to fill some of those hungry appetites.

Ive had a busy morning so far, meeting with clients, on the phone with sponsors and then compiling the pressure of drinking beer and watching football so I won't have time today to do any youtube previews yet. I'll check with my assistant to see if I have an hour or so of free time to get them uploaded tomorrow, if not maybe I can persuade one of my AV guys to do it for me for a six pack of Rainier. Either way, stay tuned.

I started using my weasel boxes for trapping rats in my yard so I didnt catch any birds, kids or dogs. The raccoon would probably still get his hand slapped as they like to reach in to things though.

Nice! I might have to set a couple of those style traps around my chicken coop. Still no vid up from Friday nights excursion. The baits were untouched this morning. I need to get a couple more cameras set up in some different areas. The fam got knocked down with the 24 hour flu after the Hawks game, so its been pretty miserable around here today. Didn't get much done.

Actually might have knocked him out cold. The dog goes crazy around the base of the tree during the day sniffin. About twenty minutes ago she was packing something big around in the yard... Yup, big ol rat nasty. Hittin up Home Depot after work tonight for some batteries for another trail camera to put up on another station tonight. I'm hoping I'll have enough material compiled to put together a Siskel and Ebert two thumbs up quality flick within a week or so. And yes... It will feature music from a select few of my favorite metal bands. :chuckle:

Yeah that would be a good one. I foresee a little Disturbed "the sickness" as well. :chuckle:

Actually, the trap probably killed him. Years ago I set a trap fopr a wily rat that was stealing dog kibbles at night. I tied a kibble to the trap trigger, and the spring just whapped him on the nose. He died of a massive nosebleed right by the trap. :IBCOOL:
-
I cant wait for more. :chuckle:
I found a dead squirrel outside one of my rat boxes. It was just dead laying in front of the box. Well I didnt know long it had been there so I didnt want to eat it but I did skin it. when I got to the head I could see it had gotten hit on the top of the head by the trap but not caught in it. The force was enough to kill it. I am sure that rat was probably killed or severely wounded by that trap even though it didnt get caught in it.
-
Damn I may have found a new sport to get me through february to may!! I love it!!
-
Its awesome... I find it hard not to go check my set like every hour! :chuckle: Just one more great use for a trail camera. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that rat in the vid was killed. Massive blunt trauma to the head :chuckle: It was a big sucker. Who knows how long the dog packed it around for today. I should have taken a AHL pic :bash: :chuckle:

Dang its chilly! Just came in from checking the "live trap" cam 8) Nothin yet... I left the lamp on in the coop so maybe one will get cold enough to wander by and catch a whiff of the bait on its way to warm up. I'm not sure how I'll edit footage if one is caught in the live trap, or how the capture will be put down. Camera 2 is on tonight also over another spring trap bait. Those ones seem more fun :chuckle:

I have not caught a rat since I let one of my buck rabbits out to free range the yard. I either extirpated all of them or he is keeping them away.

As with any new small business adventure one is bound to come accross difficulties of some sort. Well, last night my camera settings and placement were the issue. As you all know, I set "live trap" bait station last night on camera two's location between my coop and travel trailer. It was a success trap wise, but my lack of experience with the stealthcam caught me off guard. :'( I'm going to take this opportunity to learn from my mistake in hopes of returning an even better product in the end. Hopefully I'll obtain some decent footage of the "release" :chuckle:

My little girl just told me she heard scratching up in the attic last night :yike:. I know there is a nest of some type up there but I thought is was abandoned. Time to get some traps.

Just found this thread! This is great!

Here's a little help on the book! :chuckle:
How to cook rats?
Why not trying to cook them like chicken?
Ingredients
· Fresh rats
· Fresh herbs
· Peanuts oil
· Chili peppers
· Butter
· Peanuts
Preparation
· First you’ll have to blown the rat skin with a blowtorch.
· Then leave them cool down.
· When it cool enough, clean the rest of the skin with a steel wool.
· Eviscerate the rat and split it.
· Put all the good rat parts in a jar, with the fresh peppers and the herbs and the oil.
· Leave for it for half an hour to the fridge.
· Deep-fry until brown in a mixture of butter and peanut oil.
· Serve till hot with some crunchy peanuts.
