So I loaded CHDK onto my Powershot S2 IS so I could shoot in raw format, but the file extension is .crw which I found out is the proprietary format for Canon. Is there a good cheap/free software package out there that reads the .crw format? Photoshop will not recognise it.

I believe Adobe also has a plugin/codec for these type files. However, that depends on the version that you have and a few other factors. Adobe has only offered some plugins or upgrades only to users of the newer software. With that camera didn't you get Canon's software... DPP or Digital Photo Professional? Of course that software will do it and many think it's better than the ACR or Adobe Camera Raw & Photoshop...
Just so you know, shooting in raw isn't .raw or anything like that. I believe my Canon 40d shoots raw in .cr2 format. It's just a generic term for that camera brand's digital negative file. The actual extention don't matter. I know some of the other brands use other extention names but I can't remember what they are off the top of my head. Really good question.

Thanks guys. I will check out the link and look for some PS plugins. I have PS 7 and no real desire to pay for any newer versions so if I can find plugins or reader of some sort I will try it.

Slider - I checked the link and realised that I have it bookmarked. Have you tried this software and if so, what do you think of it?
