So again, I'm throwin it out (or casting).
looking for someone to join me on a few overnighters I'm starting to plan up/give me alternate ideas through the summer with trout in mind.
I smoke, and my hiking speed shows it (30 min to the mile for about 5-6 miles and 500ft/mile gain, then I'm doubling that time). Can provide for myself, just want company for the sake of company (always winning playing poker by myself is getting old), and for the off chance that I go rolling down into some remote ravine and kill myself I'd need someone to point and laugh at me. I very often do the "hey look at that" and start wandering off in some direction, or waste time here and there for some random purpose. Can handle cold/rain/wind weather, might whimper, but that's just for the sake of complaining.
I've got references here if needed (feel free to chime in if you are one [example: uncoolperson is very cool, though a little slow (in the head)]).

I would be up for some high lake hike in fishing!! Just let me know when and where. I'll be getting back in hiking shape now that I can go look for sheds.

Golden Trout everyone wants a Golden Trout!! What happened to the quest for a good ol Brookie?
-
Man, now that's a beautiful brookie!! One of the most beautiful fish in the world IMO.
-
Man any trout is a good trout, but a golden would be cool because i've never caught one! I used to hike up to this lake every summer with some friends in high school, but haven't been since, it sure was fun. Beautiful scenery, and good fishing!!
-
I'd probably be up for a hike this spring/summer. I might be able to walk a bit faster than you but you'll outfish me anytime, so I guess we're even. I used to fish quite a bit but sort of just stopped for no good reason. I was just talking to my wife the other day about it (yeah, I'm married, so keep your pants on) and I want to start fishing again. I used to hit Rainier quite a lot but haven't gone in a while. I live not far from the Alpine and want to get up to some of those lakes, though.

Hey Skyvlahunter-where in the state are there brook trout? Grew up catching them in the high Unitias in Utah and would love to go after some. Fine fighters for their size and great in the frying pan!
-
Alot of the lakes near Stevens Pass have brookies. Quite a bit were stocked with cutts though too. Problem with brookies they have a tendency to over populate and then you get stunted fish.
-
They also tend to populate lakes that freeze over fairly early and have short "growing seasons". We had a couple of lakes where they grew to the 3-5lbs range (big for brookies) and I'll tell ya, you knew when you had one on the end of the line!!! Have to look into that, I'd love to catch a couple just for old times sake. Thanks for the info., did'nt mean to digress from the org. thread.

Cool pic Sky....did you take that pic or ? I miss catching those too! I need to get my kids on that...
-
Yes Iceman that was a fish from one of last years hikes. I like to do alot of hiking into high lakes during the summer to stay in shape, scout, get my dog excercise, etc. Thats how I got hooked was my dad dragging me out there when I was a kid that seems to dictate what a person does when they grow up. Now I just snowshoe until the snow melts, not much into the winter camping like your trips.
-
I may be interested in a few trips. I need to get my A$$ in shape and am not a fast hiker. Of course I don't know anything about fishing. Only been 2 times but I want to learn and take it up. I do have a cheap fishing pole and a little bit of gear and I have all the gear for backpacking. Where about are you thinking. I am probably good for 3-5 miles one way with moderate elevation gain. That may get better by summer. PM me and let me know. Tony

Nice brookie! I have caught 100's of them and love catching brookies. Especially in the Fall when they are in spawning colors.
I caught a few golden trout as a child when hiking in California. I still remember their colors. Always wanted to try for another and an excuse to explore some new areas in WA and get some exercise.
Will start doing research

Those brookies are fun. They are in a few areas in the Olympics. There is even a high mountain lake with Kokanee salmon in it.
-
I am planing a trip in august. We went last year to a lake outside twisp my first to the backcountry. Will be going on a trip every year.
-
High mountain lakes and streams are the reason to go hiking or on horseback into the wilderness.... Lots of cool little lakes that produce well. mostly cutthroat but still awesome.... I go mostly in the chinook pass area. Lots of fun and great therapy.....
-
I'd be up for all the above.
We should all thats interested have a get together for a hike/camp/fish trip!!!
Definitely looks like fun!
