Title: Remmington 740... Any experience?
Post by: duramax on January 23, 2011, 05:18:01 PM
A friend of a friend is in need of some money. He is looking to sell his model 740 semi auto with an older Leupold 3×9 on it. He is asking 250 and was wondering if this gun is worth picking up to help the guy out? I really don't need another big game rifle, but if its a decent gun I could have another spare.

If the gun works it is worth it. What caliber?

Yeah as long as the action works it's worth it.

I'd jump on it. Some will say that the 740 sucks. Some will say it's great. For $250 with a scope? That a great deal IMO

Two buddies of mine killed a pile of deer and a few elk with them over the years.  Can't go wrong on the price. :twocents:

The 740s had some serious issues with jamming, but most of that was to to much lubrication left after cleaning and with the magazine open design is prone to getting dirt in it. Keep your eye on the forearm attachment screws had issues as well. This gun is considered "Obsolete" by Remington, so parts will be few and far between (Remington does not stock parts for this gun).
