im looking at getting a 270 i have looked at the remington 770 270 but ive heard it is not a good gun :dunno: i want a good gun but i dont want to spend that much $$$ what would you guys recomend? :dunno:

I would get a savage or a stevens before a 770. Actually that new marlin bolt action looks pretty good to me, if they ever make one left handed I'll buy one.
-
I have a Savage .243 I bought at Wal-Mart. My friends laughed at me...until they shot it. Tack driver. I came with a scope for under 400.00. If I were gonna buy a new rifle, I would do it again in a heart beat. You get what you pay for. But sometimes ya get a bit more. ;) Oh yea, the under $400.00 was with tax.

:) TIKKA. or a couple hundred more Winchester. think about the 270 short mag.

I'd say one of the Savages, as I'm partial to them but also check out the Weatherby Vanguard's. Not ure if they still ave the 399 deal or not.
-
From what I've heard about the Marlin, I think I'd go with that for a low priced rifle. Savage is always a good choice too. Weatherby Vanguard's are good but on the heavy side.

tikka t3 lite

Ive had a savage 110E in .270 for over a decade now. love that gun. came cheap and no issues what so ever. ;)
-
howa/vanguard or the tikka t3 will give you the very best accuracy for the price. howas are like 550 with there scoped option and a tikka t3 lite in 06 was 603$ out the door with a nice little 3-9x40 redfield scope.

Tikka T3 has gotten rave reviews from the folks that know.....
-
Another vote for Howa-Vanguard.

Marlin xl7, TC venture, or savage . Do youself a big favor and don't buy the 770 ;)

770= sh!t just like most newer remington products in my opinion. :twocents:

Most of the ha8ers have never shot or owed one. I have the 710. Goes bang all the time moa or sub depending on me. It is not perfect, it is cheap and some areas it reflects it. I can not tell where you live on my phone but if your close, and you buy some ammo ill let you try it out.

Marlin XL7 is worth a look. I bought one for my son last year. Great gun for the money. Great.

TIKKA (by SAKO ) would be my choice and here is why:
I bought a Tikka T3 Lite 22-250 ss/ comp last summer after I bought a Rem 700 7 Mag ss / comp and in a side by side comparison the TIKKA is by far the better built gun in all ways, taking into account the differences inherent in the calibers. Both are absolutely TACK DRIVING scary accurate but the TIKKA will cycle ammo as smooth as a whisper where the Remington you have to frequently jam on the bolt to get the next shell in the chamber. The action on the TIKKA is SOLID. If money is no object I would get a SAKO 85 next time I buy a bolt action rifle. One draw back on the TIKKA T3 is the detachable clip is plastic. I bought a spare one ($65) and stashed it away in the safe in case I bust one or lose it. Keeping to the economy theme I topped the TIKKA with a new Redfield while the Rem got a Leupold V2 - the scopes are very close to the same optically.
Incidentally I also picked up a 770 .243 at WallyWorld for the kids and that thing shoots absolutely wonderful. I have no problem putting round after round in a 2 inch circle at 150Yds from the bench. The bolt is a bit floppy when pulled all the way back but it gets the job done on the cheap.
hope this helps- I am in now way an expert, but this is my :twocents:

hunting season is still a few months away you could hold off and try to save and buy a so called better gun. I think the most inportant thing here is you get the gun that feels right when you hold it up. Every time this subject comes up people are always saying tikka. I have no doubt that the tikkas are great guns I just dont like they way they feel to me. :twocents: I think if you have a gun that feels right when you hold it up that gun will shoot better for you then it would for someone that doesn't like how it feels.

I gotta 770 and its sh!t.

What are Rugers going for these days? that may be a way to go... Try to get a Cabela's coupon... Check Sportco sales, there might be one on sale... Not too long ago they had a CZ like new (probably never shot) for $400 in .270Win. Gone by now, but there are deals out there...

GO WITH SAVAGE, YOU CAN EASILY GET A NICE SAVAGE FOR UNDER $300 AND YOU CAN'T BEAT SAVAGE ACCURACY.
-
get the browning x bolt medalion that is what i have and its a tack driver for the money its worth it
-
I bought the .270 weatherby vanguard and it's an excellent gun! I got the .270 WSM so I can push 'em out at 3,200 fps with all the advantages of a flat shooting bullet.

Congrats on your purchase
