My house is turning into a bird paradise, other than english sparrows and starlings anyway. This is my new friend. I assume its an Oriole but I could be way wrong.

I had the hardest time getting him in the open. He likes his brush....

western tanager

I wondered that, but I had in my mind that they had some blue on them or were more exotic looking. I bet I am thinking of a bunting. COOL.

western tanager

They are a cool bird. Thanks for the pics

He's probably just passing on through, but happy he stopped by.

Not sure what your home habitat is, other than aspen - you'll see these guys all summer long in dry open ponderosa.
-
For the most part its the desert LT Murray, with the ponderosa stuff about 5 miles up the road. I do offer a bit of an oasis here though with some pines, but mostly sage.
-
Might be why he's there. With the cool spring, I wouldn't be surprised if nesting isn't delayed due to a lack of bugs. Don't expect he'll stay around too long though.

Very good pictures, I've only seen two before, one in NE Oregon and one near Cathlamet
