Can someone explain the point system for the special permit drawings or point me to where I could find that info.
Thanks

Here is the official WDFW site where it is all explained

Better you study this info before you believe everything else you might hear .

For points, you are entered into the drawing for the squared amount of time of each point plus one. For example. If you have 4 points, you will be entered in to the drawing 4x4 + 1 (for this years app) = 17 times. If you have 0 points, you will be entered in 0x0 + 1 = 1 time. If you have 12 points you will be entered into the drawing 12x12 + 1 = 145 times.
As far as the drawing goes, all applicants for a specific species are entered into one (figurative) pot. The names are then drawn one at a time. All of the selected applicants choices will be checked for available permits before the next applicant is drawn. So it is always advantageous to start out with the hardest to get choice as your first choice. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys! Very helpful, I think I understand it now.

Has anyone decided to just go for points this year on deer?
-
yup
-
Thinking VERY seriously about it, especially with a Montana tag in my pocket.
-
I probably will since we both know the status of the deer situation in that area we would like to draw for. I am thinking just hitting the regular season and save up the points.
-
I had thought about going Desert and then leaving the rest blanks and save for when it improves elsewhere. I'll put Idabooner in and the Mrs. and that ought to be enough if one of them nails it.
-
Yeah, I hope most guys go points only, the deer hunting this year is going to suck anyway, save those points. ;)

:yeah:
If your going to wait 10-15 years for a tag mise well wait a for a good up cycle so its really worth it :dunno:
-
Yeah, I think everyone should just apply for Desert. Not worth applying for the other areas on a down year.
-
You just keep telling everyone that, Ridgerunner! :chuckle:
(I might have my spot to myself)

I can't decide, the bow tags are really limited in areas and there's a couple rifle hunts I've really wanted for a long time. Probably points only this year, heck of it is I have Montana again next year..

I'm surprised nobody has corrected this info yet. This has all been discussed on here many times, but one more time: the way it works is if you have 4 points, you go into this year's drawing with 5 points. When you apply, they add the point, so you have 5, which is squared for 25 chances in the draw. I'll leave it at that for now.

I used to think it was the same way you said until somebody on this board convinced me that I was wrong. (and it took a lot of convincing, believe me.) :chuckle:
