Title: Places Pattern Your Turkey Gun on the Westside
Post by: sarugby9 on February 16, 2011, 02:04:10 PM
Hi All, I am new to the state and gearing up for Spring Gobblers.  I am looking for a place to pattern my Mossberg before the season starts. I live just outside Bellevue, WA and I know that I can go to Renton Fish and Gun club but I was wondering if there are any other public ranges or public land nearby in King County. I would prefer public land, it's just easier that way. Thanks for the feedback.

Kenmore Gun Range?

Kenmore's patterning board has not been usable or open for public use for years as far as I know.
I believe there's a patterning board at Seattle Skeet and Trap that you can use for  a small fee.
I usually go somewhere where it's ok to shoot in the mountains and do it there.
 :dunno:
Not too many places you can go that I specifically know of.

Thats not always true.
No recreational shooting in lots of places in King County where you can hunt.
Be careful.

Same in Snohomish County.  Signs say specifically No shooting except for hunting under WDFW regulations.

Be VERY carefull.

We generally pattern our guns the first time we head east to scout.

oh ...yikes sorry...guess I am too used to the way things are here on the east side...I just figure, i would always go to one of my favorite places where we shoot clays and set up and go for it or any of the miles and miles of wheat fields we have out this way...(with permission...duh) ... or the old rock-chuck'n spot ...etc etc etc ....     but yeah, I guess you guys are right and you may not have a lot of private land over there where the land owner is a nice guy who also hunts and is almost happy to have you come out and pattern if you promise to shoot the yotes for him.... anyway, yeah be careful , I retract my previous ignorant post...

I am also interested in this, living in Edmonds.

I have a friend that tells me Ebey and/or Spencer Island are both WDFW areas, and in theory, I could pattern there.

Any thoughts?

Ebey will be unleaded shot only and I don't think they allow recreational shooting there. Dunno, you'd have to read the signs or call WDFW. I know it's not legal at the WDFW rec sites around me.

I'm not sure why you woudn't just go to Renton Fish and Gun club.   You've got to be pretty close.

They have a lane specifically for patterning shotguns.

I've only done it once, but it was there that i did it and it worked nice.

Basically a big steel wall with a bunch of goo on it that clearly shows where your stuff hit.   I don't know more about it but you can also bring targets and pattern there.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and input...not that it is a surprise but the Western WA is not gun friendly by any streach. Renton Fish and Gun club it is.

Thanks for the thread.  Perfect timing.

And Dan-o, thanks for the reference.  I had been looking for awhile and had not heard of the Renton club.  I called today, and confirmed they have a lane for patterning, and you can shoot 3-1/2" magnum loads, which most clubs don't allow.  You have to bring your own targets, and method for holding them upright.
