My nephew bought some raffle tickets and won a September bull tag in the Wasatch Mts. I believe the West Heber unit. Did he do good?

Very good tag. I've put in for that tag the last two years. Changed it up this year. He should hold out for something 320 plus.

Very good!

Cool! best of luck to him. Tell him to take lots of pics :IBCOOL:

Sounds like they have some scouting trips to do. I've never been that lucky with a $5.00 ticket. :bash: Guess he spent $150 on several choices, and pops up with that. :dunno: Don't think he really knew what he had to begin with. I try to put high expectations on him :chuckle:

It is a decent unit for Utah but coming from WA it will be better than anything you have ever seen. Expect to see 3-6 branched bulls a day. A 320+ bull is a shooter. Expect a lot of people both hunting (literally 6-10 people helping per tag) and tourists due to proximity to SLC. Had the Premium tag last year.

Was it archery or rifle? You said September so I assume its a rifle tag. Some might argue but the wasatch is probaly one of the best units in Utah for a chance at bringing home a BIG bull. Utahs Elk hunting has done a big nosedive in the last couple years. Too many cow tags, depradation hunts, land owner tags, CWMU tags, Special interest groups with tags and an increase in overall bull tags to "reduce the age class and bull to cow ratio". The Wasatch hasen't been affected as much because of its huge size. Get away from the roads and wear out a little boot leather and youll likely find yourself in some of the best Elk hunting youll ever experience.

Not my thread but the short version is, I shot a 343 bull on day 5 of the rifle season. I took 5 scouting trips prior to the season, bowhunted a long weekend then went for a week for the rifle season. I probably could have done a little better but I wanted to go deer hunting.
