I saw McNeil Island is closed down.. I did some of the concrete work on it when they renovated it. Lots of big bucks. Maybe we have a new hunting area next year. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

thats sounds really cool.

nope. DSHS is keeping sex afenders there still. just the general pop is closed done. my uncle does the trans port for them all.
-
Then they should open it up for sex offender hunting!

There is now talk of shipping the civilly commited S.O.'s to MLS. If'n it does open, I know where I'll be!! Pard did some work out there a few years ago, talk about some honker bucks...
-
Now that would be a awsome place to hunt
-
that would be an awesome spot to open up for hunting. close to home!

Did quite a bit of work on the Island. It is going to become the jurisdiction of WDFW. The sex offender unit is under control of DSHS not dept. of corrections. Once it is totally closed down people can take their boat to island. WDFW is going to do control to keep people from squatting in the boarded up housing. At least that is what I understand. And yes nice deer and some really nice small fishing ponds.

WDFW already owns most of the island as part of the S. Puget Sound Wildlife Area. I think the public is a little confused with this whole prison closure/transfer thing. Yes McNeil Prison is closing, but it is not being torn down or sold, it will still be DOC property. If indeed the Sex Offender unit moves off the island that unit will still be DSHS property unless they sell it. There is no legislation/talks about DOC/DSHS selling their land or giving it to another agency. I would be very surprised if McNeil becomes open to the public. It will most likely become some type of "wildlife refuge".

And therefor I think if it does become wildlife sanctuary it will be under control of WDFW.

My buddies wife was a flight instructor before she became a commercial pilot. She was air born during a "test flight" I guess you'd call it with a student when the engine lost power. Long story short, she made an emergency landing on a big field on McNeil. I guess within seconds there were tons of security in the field. Pretty crazy. Ive heard the fishing is insane on McNeil. As far as big bucks, I'm sure there are some nice ones... They swim right next door to me on Fox Island. There are some bruisers on McNeil, Fox and Anderson.

It was kinda cool the racoons would come right into our job trailer and steal our lunces if we left the door open. The Island is actually a jewell of the puget sound aside of the sex offenders.

Every potential deer hunting spot needs a little predator control first!

Yes there are a TON of deer out there and the pond is loaded with whopper trout! Too bad, I was thinking of going out there asap! :'(
