Title: A pair of bears
Post by: Timber on May 18, 2008, 10:46:20 PM
Got pictures of two bears this weekend. The first bear I called in with a predator call. He/she came running in after about 2 minutes of calling. At about 30 yds the bear smelled my footprints from earlier and ran back the way it came (poor planning on my part). Notice the slobber in its mouth.

Took pictures of this bear the next day, 100yds from where I called in the bear on Saturday. I was about 40 yds away when I took this picture. Different bear for sure, in the sunlight his coat had a brownish tint to it.

That head on pic of the first bear makes him look like a bruiser. Nice pics man. Good work on the calling. Open reed or closed? Or were you using electronic?

Is it just me, or does the first bear look BIG?  How much do you think it weighs.  I know pics can be deceiving.

I'm also interested in what kind of call you were using?

Can or do you use calls effectively during the general bear season as well?

I would guess the bear weighs about 200lbs. It's track was 4 1/2 inches wide.

This is the call I was using.

Some other guys like BTKR, probably have more experience than I do with calling, but in my opinion you can call in a bear at anytime, it depends on the bear and the mood it's in. You may have better luck in the spring vs general season because of the lack of food in the spring and the fact that it is fawning season.

Yes he did, with his camera and his advice.  NICE work.
Basically you can call a bear in when he is hungry.  When is that.  ALMOST all the time.

I think the only time they are not hungry is when they are sleeping and they are probably dreaming about eating anyway. :)
